Ok, I'm sure you guys this question a lot. I haven't played g-mod in a while, and am trying to figure out how to install addons, mods, packs and the like. I'm going to go through the step by step as I understand it so as to avoid the obvious answers first. I am trying to get this added on: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=30832 When I download the file, the read me file says to just extract to the addons folder. Which I know to be located at: C:/programs/steam/steamapps/(username)/garrysmod/garrysmod So I extract the file to that. I go into the game search through the spawn menu and can't find it. So then I browse through every single file, in game, and still can't find it. So then I do something slightly different The halostuff file is filed with a bunch of other folders like materials, models, lua, etc... So I extract those file directly into the garrysmod folder. This time when I go into the gmod and browse I see the halo folder but nothing come up. So, after all that my questions would be, 1 do I have to put the read me file in the add on folder too, and 2 if not how do I install this addon, and other like it? Thank you for you help in advance.
When you finish downloading the zip, you extract all folders to garrysmod/garrysmod/addons It should pop up on the Q menu and if not, explore the browse tab and most likely look for the addons folder name. If non of that works then i have no earthly idea on how to help you more.
I ALWAYS extract to a separate folder, then find out how the person packed the zip. Sometimes it's a layer or two deep before you actually get to the real contents of an addon (IF it's even a true addon). It also can change depending on which program you use to extract. You should be able to extract this one to its own folder, dive into it, until you reach the folder "halo_stuff" , and copy the "halo_stuff" folder to your addons, not the parents (it'll be in the same folder as the readme.) I'm sure you already knew all that, but figured I'd post just in case it helps. (Took me a couple of days myself to figure it out when I first started DLing stuff for Gmod) If that doesn't work, then it's probably a bunch of stuff that wasn't originally scripted as addons, that someone is trying to pack together as one. No offense, I don't want to have to clean my Gmod install, otherwise I'd dive ingame and see what was up from there.
Sadly none of those worked, thanks for the help anyways.
Copy the folder that contains a text file named "info" into the addons folder.
