HL2.exe stops responding after joining a DarkRP server and some Sandbox servers/Maps

It's been going on for a month now. I join, it sends client info, the screen goes black for .5 seconds and HL2.exe stops responding. It's pretty consistent.

I have 3.75 GB RAM an Acer Aspire X1200

and an Nvidia Geforce8200
