The last time I played Garry's Mod was over a year ago after I reinstalled Windows, so I don't have any mods installed. I want to get back in the game, but I have no idea what mods people are using these days like phoenix, gmow, etc. Can someone give me a list of what I should download? Thanks. -Emppu

I'd suggest that you use SVN cuz it's the most up to date and some of the files on garrysmod.org got deleted. And PAC2 (Player Appearance Customizer) http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=887940 . you need SVN for this one as well.

The SVN Repository, or SBEP SVN Seed?
Alright, but I'm not exactly sure which link you want me to download from that thread haha. I should tell you that you need to "checkout" the 6 SBEP files (Dynamic_gibs, SBEP_Entitys, ect.) in the SVN Repository, directly into addons to make it work.
c/p the SVN repository link to your SVN, thats what i did.
Ahh. So I need another mod called SVN? Yeh I'm really out of it.
Ahh. So I need another mod called SVN? Yeh I'm really out of it.
its not a mod. think of it as your personal addon downloader. tortoiseSVN: http://tortoisesvn.net/
its not a mod. search it on google
Ooooh fancy.
Just get Wire, madcow sweps I guess... Every server has it's own choice of shit they add but most like to use Wire and Madcow sweps even though the sweps suck
Well you'll get the hang of SVN sooner or later, like me.
its not a mod. think of it as your personal addon downloader. tortoiseSVN: http://tortoisesvn.net/
Should I use tortoise or gmod?
Should I use tortoise or gmod?
both.
both.
We're referring to tortoise svn and gmod svn right?
im using an SVN called Versions, but thats cuz i'm running on a mac. im guessing tortoise is a good choice for PC [editline]10th April 2011[/editline]
We're referring to tortoise svn and gmod svn right?
no. gmod and SVN are two different things. gmod is gmod, SVN is a program to install addons for gmod

I hate how almost everyone uses SVN now...
SVNs are amazing. They allow our community to keep everybody 100% up to date without any DLing from the box which would slow down the server. Especially with our heavy load gamemodes (500mb-3gb per gamemode) and our newest gamemode, WW3 had over 200 people in these first 2 days, its about 700mb so 700x200=140000mb (roughly 140gb) which would be pretty much impossible for the server we use to handle.
140gb is too much for your server to handle?
Bandwidth wise. We're pushing the server with 50 people on at once since we haven't upgraded yet so making people DL stuff too from it would be too much.
I'm also thinking of getting back into the game, but it's been much more than a year since I last played. How active is the game now? How active are the developers of things like spacebuild and wiremod?
They're pretty active from what I can tell. generally if theres a gmod update they update their stuff within a couple of days to fix anything that broke in the update.
