Unable to connect to multiplayer

I can play singleplayer fine, but whenever I attempt to connect to a multiplayer server it downloads all but the last file and freezes. Alt+tab / alt+F4 do not work and the only way out is through the task manager.

System specs are as follows:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503)
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5500 @ 2.80GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 2942MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
GraphicsL Card: Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset

Any ideas guys?

After attempting a few more times, it would appear that the freeze does not neccessarily occur while downloading the last file. It is always while downloading cache/'lotsofnumbers'.

I've tried updating drivers, verifying the game cache, and creating exceptions for both my AV and firewall.
