• Can you make models for GMod in SDK?

I was reading a thread on pc hardware that makes it sound as if you can make models for Gmod and half life in 'source development kit', but I asked someone on msn (not sure what he's called on here probably uke or something) and he calls them an idiot even though a few people seemed to back this guy up. Uke or whatever he's called on here also said Gmod won't run on my integrated graphics so I might as well do this for like the next month until I get a graphics card, (will sdk work on integrated). Also will I need any other software if it is possible. Thanks, I think this is the right board.
Your friend is an idiot. Of course you make models with the SDK. Then you just make it into addon form and make a spawn menu.
Yes, you need other software. You can't make a model with just the tools provided in the SDK.
No you don't make models with the SDK :downs: You make them in an external modelling program.
Can you give me an example of a decent modelling program or an easy to use one? That I should be ale to get hold of... I've got stuff from school like prodesktop but i don't think that counts, lol thanks (also what file type would i need to export it as)

Unless you have a large attention span and are good at troubleshooting, I wouldn't recommend it! :siren: What you can do with the SDK, is map. It isn't as difficult.

Also in about a months time after gcse's I've got 2 months to sit trying to get it right while at the same time learning c++ in more depth.

It's got to be possible or how would any games mods get built for Gmod. What program did you use?
A lot of modelers use 3DS Max or XSI Mod Tool (the latter is free), but pretty much anything with an SMD export/import plugin will work (Blender, Milkshape..).
I would suggest xsi mod tool.
..The forums ate my post.
..The forums ate my post.
It did that a few times to me on a post in general. I'll download XSI Mod Tool tonight and see what i can do with that..
what program could you use to export files

When I left school about 3 years ago, I had about a month's worth of nothing. I learned PHP and Visual Basic in it. Last year I had 6 month's of nothing. I re-learned PHP and also expanded on Lua.
Ok, How would I unwrap a model in XSI rather than creating the UV texture first. I don't want to shrink my pictures.
I wish i knew how to model. But all im good at is mapping :sigh: i was just wondering if someone could make a model for me?
what program could you use to export files
You can download a plugin somewhere on the XSI site.
I've tried modeling multiple times, the reason I've never finished is because I came up with problems I couldn't fix, or there was something else that needed to be done.
Then don't give advice on modelling if you don't know how to do it yourself. Edit: Mmmmmm, delicious necrophilia!
I recomend XSI softimage, its simple and it has tutorial by a fairly decent person, as a note, have a good PC cause it can be fairly slow
try cb model pro,its free and like shaping clay.
try cb model pro,its free and like shaping clay.
wow thanks its really fun to mess around with :D but how do i export the model so i can use it in gmod?
when i installed it it just crashes whenever i run it. :'(
I took a CAD class in my 9th grade high school year, I used Rhinoceros and am pretty good at it - would that count towards helping me model for the source engine? I was planning on making some models for Garrysmod but have no idea what I would do to get them in the right format, or even where to save them etc etc.

Well you should look at the post dates more.
can you use lightwave?
There's a program called propper. Add it to your sdk, and you can make models in hammer.
i wonder what program valve used when they were creating hl2
One program that I use is gmax but I don't know if gmod will take its files.
