Well, I had my hard drive taken away for about a month, and i recently got it back last week. I updated Gmod, but now it crashes immediately on startup without any error messages displaying. I was planning to make a server, and downloaded some crap to do with it, but it didnt go into my steam folder though.... could it be my hlsupdate that is whack >.> If you are familiar with dumps, somebody tell me what is going on here: http://dumps.garrysmod.com/?view=3829714966&refresh=2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ooh, yum yum, tasty! • You crashed in engine.dll with the failure NULL_POINTER_READ_c0000005_engine.dll!Unknown on Tue May 24 22:24:04.000 2011 • You were using 95 % of your memory • If you have permission you can download this mdmp here or chew this log again. System Specs would be helpful
Computer: Dell Dimension E510, Win XP Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.0GHz Under display adapters I found Radeon X600 256MB Hypermemory (and Hypermemory secondary) Under Computer: ACPI Multiprocessor PC 1.0 GB of ram If you need anything else, tell me what.
You sure that machine has run GMod before? You have a minor amount of RAM and you appear to be under the minimum recommendations for GMod. Your computer was probably close to not be able to run the game before he update, and now with a new Source Engine in GMod, your computer probably cannot run it.

Hmm, I see Madmax. But it's not only about the RAM on Radboy16's computer. His whole computer is pretty outdated, but especially his RAM. You said you installed HLSupdate, but that shouldn't cause any problems if installed correctly. Do you have any addons installed in your Garrysmod folder? (or the addons folder?) That could be pretty useful to know. You could eventually try to take GMod to lowest graphics as possible. If that still doesn't help, you should go try to re-install GMod. I hope it helps out, but if it's a computer-related problem, you probably either need to upgrade your computer or buy a new. [editline]25th May 2011[/editline] I just tried reading some of the dump file you posted when this caught my eye:
Ooh, yum yum, tasty! • You crashed in engine.dll with the failure NULL_POINTER_READ_c0000005_engine.dll!Unknown on Tue May 24 22:24:04.000 2011 • You were using 95 % of your memory • If you have permission you can download this mdmp here or chew this log again. Especially when it states that you were using 95% of your memory.

My computer spec P4 northwood 2.8ghz 2gb ram Xp Pro SP3 GeForce 6800 GT AGP About the only thing I have better then him is more Ram. in single player i have never seen a crash, on a server i have seen quite a few memory address related errors (cant read or write) quite possibly due to a faulty plug in. ran memtest86+ quite a few times to stress test my ram with no failures on any address. maybe he needs to make sure his drivers are up to date, and if they are then maybe he needs to use a older version. validating game cache (which can solve many crashes and or errors. and back in 2008/2009 i never seen any crashes with Gmod, in early/mid 2008 i still had 512mb ram, in late 2008 i had 2gb of ram.
its not the damn pc its the game updates fucked up mostly everything i have 2 computers one exactly like madmax and this one im writing (core i7,4 GB ram ati hd 5000) and i crash too
Hmm. It just seems strange that he's crashing with engine.dll after the Source Engine updates. And especially because he's at 95%. But if other people are crashing like Illchrizl, I'll either try to verify game cache and if that doesn't work. try to wait it out. I've had some GMod errors and crashes and I just waited it out. Then it usually works again after a couple of updates. (and uploading .dmp files.) But hopefully, you'll be able to run this again at some point. Good luck.
