Sick of HL2.exe errors...Here is the fix!... 1) Right click Garry's Mod. 2) Click "Set launch options". 3) Copy and paste this into the box "-dxlevel 8 mat_max_worldmesh_vertices 1024 -sw". Without the quotation marks! 4) Click "Save", and run Garry's Mod! I hope I helped! If this does NOT work, please do not cry!
Wonderful, a fix for a problem nobody with a computer that cost at least $5 experiences.
I get it at times.

There's your problem, possibly. When I played on my Vista laptop, I'd constantly have this error. [sp]oh god that gif is awful quality[/sp]
Oh I hate it when people claim that Vista was a load of shit. The only thing wrong about it was the hardware requirements. If you could meet them, the OS ran beautifully (Hell, I'd still be using it on my main machine if I wasn't offered Win7 for free). If you couldn't meet the requirements, it ran like shit, and that was the problem at release. The market had to go from meeting the ridiculously low requirements of the nearly 7 year old (at the time) XP to the brand new Vista, who's hardware requirements were much higher than anticipated. If manufacturers were to release computers right off the bat that could run Vista well, they would have easily been doubled in price. The only way a good Vista PC could be had for a reasonable price at the time was if you were to build one, and the people who did are among the very few who defend Vista as a fine OS that was portrayed as poor-running to general consumers due to limited availability and lofty price of computers that could actually handle the OS. TL;DR there's nothing wrong with Vista as long as the hardware is there to back it up.
TL;DR there's nothing wrong with Vista as long as the hardware is there to back it up.
uneducated response is fail. There is little reason to use Vista for most people, if they had a legit copy chances are they could upgrade to win7 for free from most retailers. However, I used Vista and I enjoyed it. I had a pretty powerful PC so I didn't mind, however it was a piece of shit that whored your hardware. Just because you have good hardware is no reason for shit code to abuse it. When a game does this it's livable, but the thing your PC uses every second of every powered moment then it is not acceptable.

Problem is people got so much out of XP, whenever Vista came along and offered a more in-depth operating system, it ran like shit for everyone. Plus the driver support wasn't as good. Now that you have Windows 7, install Vista again. I bet you it runs the same.
The only OS I've had is Vista so I can't really back anyone up here lol. However, I have heard Vista is pretty bad. I plan on getting Windows 7 once I get a gaming computer (which could be awhile).
uneducated response is fail.
Uneducated rebuttal is fail. (See? I can do it, too!) Everything I said was spot on. I've seen how Vista utilizes hardware, and I've had quite a few years experience with Vista and computers in general. this would mean nothing with no evidence, but I provided enough sound information in my original reply to back it up. What I say still stands; Vista runs fine with powerful hardware. the only reason for this is due to the way Vista makes use of hardware. the only way Vista could run poorly is if it isn't given powerful enough hardware to begin with. Whether this is acceptable practice on the developers' side or not is irrelevant, as is stating that consumers have no reason to use Vista. None of that matters, as my original statement was simply outlining why Vista could run poorly on less powerful machines, and why there is nothing performance-wise wrong with Vista so long as its hardware requirements were met. It's a sound OS (or at least as sound as 7) otherwise.

You also shouldn't assume every forum idiot is a 12 year old with a keyboard. Just because Vista WILL perform well with the required hardware doesn't mean the average consumer should put up with it. Isn't Win7 proof that the same job can be done with less hardware? This isn't an indie game they released like Magicka that only runs on decent hardware. It's the most used operating system series around, they should optimize it as far as possible. Optimization is key in software you expect a lot of users to run. Why do you think games like SWTOR can run on such high graphics, while at the same time there min requirements are really low. I used Vista myself and I really liked it. I think the only reason I uninstalled on my main was to use Mousepads maphack for Diablo II... But it's optimization was a joke and MS should have done better.
Isn't Win7 proof that the same job can be done with less hardware?
Actually, Windows 7 runs on the same specs that Vista did.
Just because Vista WILL perform well with the required hardware doesn't mean the average consumer should put up with it.
Except when you buy it, you should read the recommended requirements first.

I never said anything about consumers putting up with MS's shitty optimization, I just stated that Vista has no apparent flaws that any other WinOS doesn't. I never said anything about 7's superior performance on less hardware. All I stated was that Vista has the ability to perform on par with 7 with the right hardware. It seems to me that all you tried to do was provoke an argument, as you pulled a debate out of nowhere by arguing to me a point I hadn't even made. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline]
Actually, Windows 7 runs on the same specs that Vista did. Except when you buy it, you should read the recommended requirements first.
Win7 may have listed the same requirements as Vista, but in practice, Vista needed a lot more resources to be truly usable (By that I mean on par with the smoothness of operation and usability of the most recent MacOS at the time).
Wow this thread sure is on topic So what do mat_max_worldmesh_vertices 1024 and -sw do? Would the worldmesh vertices thing make parts of the world geometry not render or something? Not that I have this issue, just curious. Would this be a good way to increase framerate on a shitty computer? Also I believe you should be using -dxlevel 81 instead of 8
is there a way to disable the explosion effects in css?
Do you mean the C4 explosion, or all explosion effects like grenades and such?
all of them
Find the explosion .mdl and delete it :D
Won't work, the explosion model is supplied by the .gcfs
Rawr, should have known this was too deep water for me! :<

Probably.
