I want to play Garry's Mod but i don't want to buy CS:S. so because you used to be able to buy it packaged with team fortress, is i download team fortress can i buy gmod plain and simple? (all the gfc files that it needs are htere so...) i need help before i buy it.
You can just buy Garry's mod by itself....
if that's what you're asking..
Yes, you've always been able to buy Garrysmod alone. It required you own another Source game though, so it was packaged with CS:S and Tf2, with Tf2 free now, I'd think anyone can buy Garrysmod standalone.
You don't need any other game anymore,i bought it for a friend just to test it.
I thought people would know by now,i even messaged Garry about it who posted it on his twitter.
F2P TF2 doesn't come with the Source SDK, so I'm pretty sure you need CSS or another Source game.
Even if you can run it alone it's recommended you own CSS, since almost every map uses CSS textures.
No, Source SDK is free now, evidently they didn't realize that Source SDK would be free, but they let it slide.

It's free when you BUY a source game.
It comes with TF2 apparently.

It will be next to implayable due to a shitload of missing textures

Source SDK was accidentally released it for free after the F2P tf2 and decided to keep it that way
Bleh, Its worth having all the source games by Valve I find to play this, except the ones that arn't supported properly like Portal 2 and sort of L4D although that does seem to be improving.
So just get CSS+Gmod pack, if you don't you'll be missing lots of textures and it's not worth it.

You can mount L4D1/2, you know that right?

Not anymore, now it's free for everyone.

Either way, you're gonna be missing lots of textures unless you get CSS.
I actually bought it for a friend who only has F2P TF2 (and no other Source games).
So yes, GMod is pretty much standalone.
I like how everyone rated me disagree because they're too bloody lazy to use Google. :S

Yeah but the maps don't work as well as they should etc, It doesn't really have to work that well since its on a different source engine.

It's not a different Source engine you know.
It's still Source, hence why mounting works at all.
L4D 1/2 uses a modified form of the source engine, so does Portal 2.
It's been stated many times.

Yes, but it's still the same engine.
The fact that it's a modified version of the engine doesn't mean it's not still Source.
