Does Gmod jump into Dota? wait for counterstrike or go to sleep for Half life?
(although i could swear Dota looks a lot sexier than csgo... )
in english- The orange box is dated and i would look forward to garrys mod being ported to a new engine. Especialy since dota 2, csgo and portal 2 look so good and have a few nice npc's and models that would be good to use along with support for portals. i would be happy for everything to break for a big update. (assuming the good can be recompiled)

CSGO and DotA will most likely be using a branch of the main Source engine, the one Gmod uses.
When there's a newer source engine that's not a branch.

AKA Episode 3/Half Life 3 (whatever they decide to call it)
Well right now Source has more-or-less branched into two seperate engines. The orangebox engine that gmod, tf2, and most previous games (I believe all but hl:s and hl2dm) run on. And the recent l4d engine that's powered Valve's three latest games, left 4 dead, left 4 dead 2, and portal 2, as well as alien swarm and Nuclear dawn. And it's becoming increasingly difficult to use content from games on this new engine in games on the old one (gmod doesn't mount l4d's materials, l4d2 shaders are broken, portal 2 materials actually need to be recompiled). But Garry has made ti very clear he won't switch to the new engine and really since tf2 has stuck with it I see no real reason for Garry to switch. When EP3 comes out. Make sure you don't get raptured before then, because then you'll miss it.

Why update gmod 's source engine? For Portal 2? Someone already ported alot of models
