A new game - Garry's Mod - Facepunch Forum

Hey i was wondering if Garry Newman would allow me and my friends to create a Dark rp game. Why would we want to do this. The reason is because we know that Garry is a very busy guy. He is constantly updating rust and doesn't have the time to fix some of the bugs. So If there was a game about Dark rp. tons of people love it but the problem is there are crashes everywhere and it would be pretty cool to have dark rp with better graphics or with less bugs or anything. So this is just a question We have if we are able to make a dark rp game What do we want to do? Make the mods involved with dark rp coded into the game so that less problems will happen causing less crashes. Make a dark rp tutorial in this game so that newcomers can come into the game knowing what to do. Making it off of a new engine/ oossibly completely from scratch so that the graphics will be better and it wont be limited to just from the source engine. Also since this game would focus on dark rp all the things like prop pushing or lennys scrip wont be able to be used because it could be made that they cant happen. Plus lennys script wont work because there would be no workshop at the beginning. There is more but this is some of the general idea. This is just an idea. Im not trying to sound harsh about the updates or anything i just really want to build off of what Garry started and make a great rp game!! Thank you for your time in reading this

I don't think you've grasped the concept of how making a game works. An engine doesn't instantly make the graphics better, and you can't just import gmod stuff in to another engine. You'd have to know how networking works for multiplayer to actually work too. Also prop pushing is the best part of DarkRP, why would you get rid of that?

That is confirmed since we compared a test to gmod and it looks better for dark rp. Second we wont be importing from gmod but things like having the cops look a certain way or having the map will be already default in the game. all the dark rp features would be coded into the game so that there will be almost no addons/ mods you will need unless the server owner would chose to add one. Keep in mind that you can't use Valve assets ( this includes all default player models ) in your game.

If this happends I'm going to laugh seeing server companies host the game DarkRP. But this is likely to fail but good luck.

So someone comes onto the OFFICAL gmod forums and asks for help and all SOME people can do is troll? What is wrong with this childish attitudes on facepunch? This persons intent is not malicious or in bad taste. He seems to just be wanting to try to help DARKRP. Sure he may be new and have some misconceptions to how some things work on gmod but why are some people not HELPING this person, instead they are just rating posts "dumb" and making immature comments. Yes some people on this thread are helping the person understand but others are just doing troll attempts and the staff do nothing about this. It worries me that some individuals of this community are acting like playgroup children and can't seem to help a new guy out.... What is even more worrying is why there are things on this forum to rate posts as "dumb", seems very immature for what is supposed to be an offical forum... As for the original poster, Perhaps you should try emailing Garry about this idea because most people on here will just troll. Good luck on this, my friend. No offence, but using another engine will only get you into more trouble, as well as literally downloading addons and porting them. Keep in mind everything you use would be workshopped, and that one DMCA can ruin your thousands hours of hard work. Why don't you focus on making a huge addon for DarkRP enchancing the gameplay? And sell it on ScriptFodder for $5 so you get some money rolling? Never copy another game, please. DarkRP might be popular, but how popular will it be if people have to pay $20 to play it? I doubt many people would pay that. The experience is and will never be the same, and adding more realism will only cause bigger minges. This is your decision, but please do not do it. I am not trying to be a bitch here, but face the truth: - Making a game takes hundreds if not thousands hours of hard work. - Optimizing the game to be able to handle the graphics, and to be able to get the animations properly will take a long, long time. - Making a game requires alot of planning, and here I am talking about planning each function you will use individually. - Face the truth: You base your game on a GMod GAMEmode, which keeps evolving. You have to evolve to get a good playerbase too. FPtje builds it with a relatively easy language with a great API. If you use for example Unity you have to develop 99% of the functions that GLua offers yourself, and you have to learn another syntax. - And there's even more I am not going to sum up as I don't want to be the one causing you not to do this. The reason people are taking this post as abit of a joke is because we hear it time and time again. "I'm going to create the next big thing with darkp, I have't started it yet but I just wanted to let you know. Can anyone code for me?" but we're yet to see any dev posts or pictures. We see this stuff on a yearly basis.

This entire thread is terrible but I hate RP so much, that I'm excited by the idea of it being moved away from Gmod

Also I have heard on many threads that the moderators are full time employees so shouldn't it be their job to stop the trolls that lurk on the forums? Regarding my name it is because I review servers., not because I sniff out "server crime"... And I can handle critisism but its called CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, critisism with no reasons is just insults and have no place on this forum.
