Why am I here ? -Well. Good question, I am Based God. Ive been wanting to open up a DarkRP server for ever now But Ive never had the money to do so. I don't get paid enough to run a server and pay bills at the same time. So I come to you today with an investment proposition. Ive been using a free server host, (freebieservers) and they are really bad. So I am looking for possible investors to donate as little as $5 to me so I can get a server started. Once it is up, I have a really good coder, I will pay you back double the money you donated in the beginning from donation money. Why can you trust me ? Well, You can trust me cause ive been using steam since 2014, Even though that isint alot, Ive never scammed I have many friends, Perfect steam rep and NO kind of bans, I will post my steam rep at the bottom of the post. I have people to vouch for me if needed. What makes our server so special ? Like I said above, I have an amazing coder, He's showed me some of his work and its really nice, We are planning to do alot, I am going to tell you right now. We will be completely custom, We will either use M9K or make our own. We will have custom jobs that NO body has used, and thats not all. You will be able to buy hats with point you earn by playing on our server, But no. Its not a point shop. We will have a teleporter that TP's you to "Admin Flat" (Outside suburbs) And we will have a custom building made JUST for our server. "The Economic Mall" It's a big building with different stores, Completely custom, With NPC's that sell food, drinks, hats and alot more cool stuff. We are going to have delivery missions, You start on one end of the map and must bring it random spots around the other side, If a cop sees you though, You can be arrested. Summary of all above We are asking for small donations as little as $5 from the amazing community of facepunch so we can start it up, We will double how much you donate and we will return it to you. I really want a server, And I think everyone will love it, You will also get a rank on the server called "Funder" You will have access to VIP items (Jobs, Hats, Commands etc) And you will be the highest non-staff rank, Just $5. Thank you and hopefully my dream will come true Links Add me on steam if you'd feel more confortable discussing this: http://steamcommunity.com/id/derek101 Add me on skype if you'd feel more confortable discussing this: live:thegamer222 My SteamRep: http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198137325299
What will you do in the event that you are not able give investors their return? What happens if you can't do what you promise to do? That, and opening with the lines 'I don't have enough money to do what I want to do right now' is not a great way of convincing people to invest in a project that they might not ever see their return.
Oh wow! You've been on steam since 2014? i didnt even know it have existed for that long! Edit: Also if you cant afford to put away 5$/month after you pay your bills im pretty sure you have bigger problems than not affording a server
Okay...
Once it is up, I have a really good coder
You seem relatively new to all of this. He is a 'really good coder' by your standards. You aren't showing your potential investors anything though. He could have copy and pasted stuff from this very forum or some leaked addons from coderhire/scriptfodder etc.
I will pay you back double the money you donated in the beginning from donation money.
There's nothing binding about this. You have 1 post and you're asking people to trust you to give them money back. That's a pretty big stretch.
Well, You can trust me cause ive been using steam since 2014, Even though that isint alot, Ive never scammed I have many friends, Perfect steam rep and NO kind of bans, I will post my steam rep at the bottom of the post. I have people to vouch for me if needed.
Eh... You start out by telling us that you're extremely new to not only Garry's Mod, but to Steam in general. Steam reputation doesn't go very far to prove that you're trustworthy enough to just hand money to. And vouches from random people with no reputation to put on the line themselves isn't very useful.
We will be completely custom, We will either use M9K or make our own.
Completely custom and having M9K are mutually exclusive. You can't be both.
We will have custom jobs that NO body has used, and that's not all. You will be able to buy hats with point you earn by playing on our server, But no. Its not a point shop.
How have you verified that nobody else has ever used these jobs? I have a hard time believing this claim. And yes... it is a pointshop. You just said you could buy hats with points that you earn... You are spending points... at a shop... A pointshop.
We will have a teleporter that TP's you to "Admin Flat" (Outside suburbs) And we will have a custom building made JUST for our server. "The Economic Mall" It's a big building with different stores, completely custom
Teleporters are simple. "A custom building..." Do you mean made from props? Are you planning to have a custom map built? If that's the case you can't afford the server itself at this point and you plan to pay for a custom map?
We are going to have delivery missions, You start on one end of the map and must bring it random spots around the other side, If a cop sees you though, You can be arrested.
Yea... That's pretty overdone at this point
from the amazing community of facepunch
This shows how new you are to Garry's Mod. I enjoy your enthusiasm, I really do. But you should understand that you are asking a lot for practically nothing in return but the equivalent of a piece of paper from a random person that says "I.O.U. X 2." You pitched what amounts to a very generic DarkRP server that there are dozens of examples of already. You have no evidence that you will be able to turn not only a profit but 2 times the donations received. I think you'll have a rough time getting many backers with this proposal.
Is your coder an actual coder or just a "coder"? Also, if you are looking for some cheap hosting, I'd recomend you get a VPS from http://hosthatch.com Most people here, me included, aren't going to give you anything unless it is spectacular. If I was you I'd focus on getting financially stable first.
From the OP:
Based God #4 Days: Just like stock market, There's always a chance that you will not get ALL of your money back.
And from the 'Coder':
[HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Ah ok, next question you do realise that this isn't a garunteed profit and the profit margin is still small right? Alex: Well the advertised investment potential offers full repayment and 100% return (so you double what you invest). So unless you don't plan on doing this, that's not a small profit margin. Alex: Could you go into more detail about the profit margin you expect investors to have? [HZ]-Fan Dosoux is now playing Garry's Mod. Click here to join. [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: " potential" [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Key word potential the profit margin is small though because we aren't asking for alot of cash. Alex: So you are saying a few donators will receive a 100% profit margin? [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Yes, but it is a one time transaction and one time payment if any profit Alex: How can you guarantee that a few if not all investors receive 100% profit margin? [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: That's the thing we cannot garunte which is why we said "potental" profit also brings up another very good point that we aren't asking for alot of money from each investor to keep stakes low. [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Or the investor can invest alot and get alot more but hence the risk is higher [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: So in essence more risk more profit. [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Sorry to reiterate but bigger profit margins. Alex: So people may not even get their initial investment back? [HZ]-Fan Dosoux: Possibly not. Alex: Even though this is not what you are offering to people: Alex: 'We are asking for small donations as little as $5 from the amazing community of facepunch so we can start it up, We will double how much you donate and we will return it to you.' Quote from op Alex: I am having a hard time finding loopholes in the wording 'we will double how much you donate and we will return it to you'

We are asking for small donations as little as $5 from the amazing community of facepunch so we can start it up, We will double how much you donate and we will return it to you.
Conflicting statements all round. You won't get what is promised to you in the op for double return on your investment.
Your coder is also 16 years old (or at least was as of April 30, 2014). Your investors are supposed to risk their money hoping that an unheard of 16 year old "coder" who "can code GMOD servers"? You have a long way to go in convincing people to give you their money :\ (Probably should have edited this into my above post. No remove button?)
Wrong place to ask bub

Age effects how other people feel about you though and if you can be trusted to make smart decisions.
I'd just l to point out here that I was 14 when I started coding Lua, age doesn't affect your coding capibilites.
I am 15 and I have eight years of programming experience with 12 different languages, as you said age doesn't affect your mental capability (to a point)
I'd just l to point out here that I was 14 when I started coding Lua, age doesn't affect your coding capibilites.
I didn't say that it affected his coding ability. The key point was:
Your investors are supposed to risk their money
It's not about his ACTUAL skills at this exact moment. It's about the proposal being made by OP. Age does affect maturity, time availability, dependability, experience, knowledge (takes time), and a slew of other things that will affect a potential investor's willingness to hand over money.
age doesn't affect your mental capability
Yes... It absolutely does. The adolescent brain is still very much in development.
The fact that you expect to make money off your server is laughable enough.
