My main harddrive was running low on space so I went around deleting stuff to try and get a couple gigs back when I found out that my Garrysmod folder was something crazy like 40 gigs. I went looking around and found the majority (~30gb) were in this one folder which I assume contains workshop files downloaded from servers. E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\downloads\server
That got me a ton of space back!
I'm absolutely certain that if you download a workshop addon from one server and then go onto another, it'll redownload it
This is fucking abysmal considering a ton of servers want you to download EVERY m9k pack, which are like 200mb each and then a giant pack of models, so I am honestly not surprised you managed to clear out so much space due to trash
It's bad when you get a new SSHD like I did and find out GMod alone totals at 137.4GB...
M9K, TDM, the inevitable slurry of playermodels some owners seem compelled to add, and if you play prophunt - about a million taunts. Adds up.
Yeah I did this a few days ago and it cleared up 30gb. Only downside is that now I have to redownload most ttt maps.
(also, for some reason my Hard Drive's space keeps slowly decreasing, but i'm guessing this is because of windows temporary files and/or backups.)
Hello.
I had a friend who needed help with his computer.
His hard drive space? 56 GB of GMOD content.
The problem? Workshop addons.
Also another problem was addons from Garry's mod.org when it was up.
Years of files, accumulated.
Took a while to remove, but much better once it was.
Take care.

Forum posts aren't formal replies, please stop saying "Hello" at the start of each post, it's creepy and makes you look like an idiot.

Well, that's what happens when someone downloads a million different addons and plays on a million different servers featuring a fuck ton of files and never bothers to clean their folder. It's like expecting your vacuum to work when you use it three times daily and never empty the container. Your friend sounds like the kind of moron that downloads every addon they see on the workshop without knowing what they do and then wonders why when they go to use certain addons their computer explodes and their game crashes. They must be even less intelligent if they actually kept old, broken addons from Garry's Mod 12 and before that don't work because of the outdated format and didn't bother to remove or reformat them.
Also just going to quote the good siranderson here:

Hello.
I thought it to be considerd polite?
I'm trying to be polite = Courtesy.
I agree,
His computer was also in a bad state.
His hard-drive had a risk of a bad sector.
Good computer health - essential.
chkdsk and defrag - he never Defrag on his hDD.
Very slow, and many files were in a bad place.
Did not know things about computers.
I had to teach him to use it properly,
Once done?
Computer in good health.
Everyones happy.
Take care.

uh... bad sectors don't come from the disk being used... what...?
:suicide:
literally every single one of your posts in this section has been dumbed into the ground, surely you realize this? have you ever stopped to think about why that may be happening?

Hello.
His disk did get a bad sector before.
He treats his pc very badly, and it occured.
Not just through use, but dropping things and other issues
My posts are being rated dumb?
I really don't understand.
I'm not insulting people.
I am not swearing.
Not bad use of personal opinion.
I simply add to discussion.
Why people don't like it? Please someone.
I don't get what I do wrong.
People say that I am "dumb". And they are troll me. I didn't see any malicious take on them - but they do to me.
I feel bad.
I'm trying to help with every post of mine.
I never try to offend, just help.
But yet they get rated dumb?
Why is this occuring?
I am very not understand to this event.
It's hard to me comprehend it, = I'm confused to this.
When I post on similar forums there is not much hatred, but some forums such as this one. I have found hatred. And It's hard to know to why this is happened. I'm doing everything right that they told me.-----
"Be polite, always use good manners, dont swear and cause trouble"
"Don't be provoked"
"Don't react to people doing mean things"
These are words I am following by but still things are going wrong.
your english is terrible and this is an english forum. 90% of the reason you're being rated dumb.

Hello.
Im living at England. - It's great!
However = English is not my first langauge.
I also suffer from Dyslexia, Whic means its harder.
Google chrome can help.
But when I am using steam browser - online spell check can often help. Also translation tools.
Translate from my Langauge to English.
It helps! But only sometimes.
Often I rely to my skills only. Or a dictionary as neccessary when the google translation fails. Which often it is!
Google translate is not always effective. -= Words are put badly phrased sometimes. Not always appropriate either, therefore not use for all the things in the Language!
My first few posts, I got my friend to help, Better English. However now it's not possible all the time. I'm trying to learn. Properly. You can see that I have to learn it even when he is offline, or away. It's harder sometimes....
I hope you understand.
Im trying to contribute to the forum, in a positive way.
I love GMOD. And I want to help.
Help with servers. Lets help the GMOD out.
I am not trying to discriminate against you for having dyslexia, although if you're using google translate to post responses you should probably try and get better before posting regularily.

Hello.
This is my English.
However I am use google translate to simply = Assist.
If there is a word I don't know or unsure,
Sutiable to use google translation to help.
However for full sentences?
Very inefficent.
So it's possible to ask friend for advice, however not always avaliable for use, therefore = Improvisation must occur.
