I don't wanna give anything away too quickly here, but the preliminary results are saying this:
- [B]How do you think the community has evolved since you purchased the game?[/B] Mostly everyone is saying "for the worse"
- Almost everyone has worked with mapping at some point
- Almost everyone who has responded already has CS:S, so it's basically inconclusive at this point as to whether disliking turtles has anything to do with not owning CS:S :(

When I first bought the game, everyone was generally very friendly and helpful. I used to play the game every day and I loved every second of it. I reinstalled it recently and found that most of the players are unhelpful and rude, it just doesn't have the same charm for me anymore :(

Personally for me it's due to the workshop and DarkRP obsession. The workshop's absolutely inundated with crap. DarkRP is...well, DarkRP is just shit.

Honestly, I think it's evolved for the worst do to LPers such as PewDiePie and Markaplier. They were the ones who brought a crap ton of kids over to the game. And the fact that the guys constantly swear and such in their videos, I'm not surprised that the community has become ruder than before. It really is a shame though because Garry's Mod is such a good plataform for making stuff.

also that every single little kid wants a server now, and it's always dark rp or TTT with 20,000 addons and random scripts and custom models, and pointshop and basically makes you download shit for ages to join what turn out to be the worst server in history.

This is pretty much my theory on while the Garry's Mod community is largely terrible; like who fucking cares if I've seen this script on another server, I'm way more put off by the circlejerk-y, unfriendly players that almost every server I've tried to play on comes with
Maybe I should've included a section based around peoples' opinions about the specimen which refer to themselves as youtubers
