What in your opinion is the best editor for lua? I'm currently using Notepad ++ but I was looking to see if anyone knows a better one.
Notepad++ does everything I need it to
Notepad++ does everything I need it to
A lot of people told me I should switch over to sublime but I like the color scheme of notepad ++ better.
A lot of people told me I should switch over to sublime but I like the color scheme of notepad ++ better.
both of them have customizable color schemes anyway, right now i use atom (http://atom.io), but i'd wait until 1.0 if you're new to sublime/atom, if np++ works for you there's no real reason to switch, some people are still using vim or emacs and if you're comfortable using it then theres no reason to switch really (doesn't hurt to try things out either)
IntelliJ + Lua Plugin.
IntelliJ + Lua Plugin.
Thanks, I'll look into it.
You should use whatever works for you, it's really based on your opinion. I currently use Sublime 2 because for me overall it just feels more "comfortable" to say.
Sublime Text is the supreme text editor, beats every other one of 'em. FPtje made a GLua Highlighter, just google it.
Notepad++ is bæ. but seriously, its good.
NP++ with the GMod Lua Lexer has always worked fine for me.
I used to always love NP++ and use it all the time, but I made the switch and can safely say I can never go back, NP++ is trash compared to Sublime. I understand that NP++ does all you need, I thought the same, but going from NP++ to Sublime was like going from hand washing clothes and dishes to dishwashers and washing machines. I use Sublime for everything, I couldn't imagine coding the Love2D game I'm coding now in NP++. Also, brogrammer colour scheme ftw. I really suggest to any NP++ people to try Sublime 3 with brogrammer scheme and Falcos highlighter. It is godly, after a while, you will find some neat plugins too.
I have tried to use Sublime and Atom but neither works for me, all have so many things to make it easier so in the end when I turn it all of it's just like Notepad++ except some dislikeable things like no () highlightning, after always using notepad++ it feels hard to get used to features like auto indentation and auto finish brackets and all those kind of things. All I want is a better theme for Notepad++ :p
Sublime. Anyone who says NP++ is a pleb zombie of the devil chameleon. NP++ is peasant software.
Sublime. Anyone who says NP++ is a pleb zombie of the devil chameleon. NP++ is peasant software.
What benefit does Sublime give you? Did you start using other auto completion software(I'm not 100% sure of what Sublime and those offer, apart from completion stuff). I find it very hard to see someone who has been using like non-completion Notepad++ for years change to Sublime or something, unless you switch off those autocompletion features, what else is there that makes it better? I am genuinely wondering, when I tried to turn my Sublime more into Notepad++ I ended up with a dark themed Notepad++ without bracket hightlightning and the indents reset themself on each line or something like that
I find it very hard to see someone who has been using like non-completion Notepad++ for years change to Sublime or something
This is pretty much my situation, and oh my, I'm so glad I changed. I must say though, I don't really use auto-completion a lot, and it can be a little annoying some times, but I could never see myself going back to Notepad++ ever again.
I'd have to throw my hat into the ring for Sublime Text 3 too. I use many of the built in features, including autocomplete, as well as many other addons I listed here. I also use the Tech49 theme and use this .tmtheme editor to alter the default Neon theme to this: Sublime Text is extremely customizable and has a never-ending foray of packages to suit your preferences. Although I enjoy Sublime quite a bit and consider it to have more features than Notepad++, what you use is still subject to your preferences. There is no argument, however, that Sublime Text has the most active community of GMod developers that make packages for a specific text editor. In the end, use what works for you, and disregard the Sublime ubermensch if you dislike the program.

I never try'ed sublime, because since the beginning, I've been using NotePad++, I'm just to use to the features that notepad++ brings to the table, I know there are probably the same features and or more with sublime, but its just that I'm so use-to NotePad++ that If I change it would be a hard change, because I would have to change and learn some of my coding habits. What you should do is choose the best that suits you.
The only issue I have with Notepad++ is that the colors of the entire window can't be changed (i think?). Any theme I decide to go to is going to clash with the border. Sublime does not have this issue: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/g6nEFRn.png[/thumb].

I just switched from N++ to Sublime, is it possible to get something like what notepad++ had with showing where functions end and start? That's the only missing thing for me.

The fold arrows usually designate the beginning of functions / conditions, and probably only show up as long as there is an end. ( I think it's practically the same thing ) There are a bunch of handy plugins you could take a look at, though you shouldn't really have issues knowing where the start and end of a function are if you tab your code properly.

Just a habit from N++
In game lua editor
In game lua editor
What?
What?
Never mind that guy, almost(?) every post he makes is dumb nonsense shit.
IntelliJ + Lua Plugin.
Bit late to this but how does InteliJ + Lua Plugin not lag for you? Last I used it the lag was nearly unusable when I was actually typing... have you actually used it with projects in the range of 5k+ lines?
