This was a petition thread, but itll probably be better if I put a poll. If I could I would but I cant so i wont.
Just talk about a new server browser and how great it would be
It'll be great if a mod changed the title and added a poll..
Yes that sounds like a good idea perhaps we can make it so the gamemodes are listed in alphabetical order so more un-popular gamemodes are played. Personally I use the legacy browser however most people just use the default browser so changing the default browser would be a good idea.
should've made this a poll thread instead
I think a specific set of gamemode genres are still a decent idea. All genres could easily fit on a page without users needing to scroll, giving a washed-out yet true representation of what servers are really on offer for players. Instead of being swamped by popular gamemodes, you are given a reasonable amount of categories to filter through instead.

It sounds nice, but I'd bet a thousand you'd just have darkrp servers categorizing themselves into every other category in droves, pretending to be "build-rp", "action-rp"

1 category per server, a static list of categories. There would not be benefit in faking your category because you will lose players.
I might be really jaded and cynical but all I see redoing the server browser at this point in any way that tries to force gamemode diversity is an influx in dumb pubbies saying "hi mi jmod can't TTT? where, ttt also derkrp??" That said, though, I do love me some social Darwinism.
Restricted Genres work pretty well, but there needs to be an effort to ensure they're comprehensive and enforced. You will get NEW BEST DARKRP NEED STAFF M9K in the build category, I promise.
I'd really rather just see the legacy browser be re implemented. While you're at it, re-add the fucking player mute option again so I don't keep having to revert the HTML menu.

The key flaw in that argument is knowledge. They're not going to know they'll lose players, they'll just do it thinking they're unique, and there will be people dumb enough to join them.

If you put a DarkRP server in the build category, you're missing out on the players more likely to join your server who are visiting the rp category.

Maybe.
The key problem of this game is the community, not the server browser. The browser didn't help, but is only in part to blame for the community. There are absolutely enough unimaginative children to make ~PVP RP~ a success. Tags will not help.

This genre idea is terrible in my opinion. You're forcing gamemodes such as TTT and Deathmatch together because they are both first person shooters but in reality are totally different. You would also be doing the same with HL2RP and DarkRP. Then where would a gamemode like Cinema fall under? Would it have its own category? You would be forcing new (potentially really good) RP gamemodes into the "RolePlay" section which nobody but little kids would click on because everyone associates RP with being terrible. What would happen to gamemodes like The Hidden, would they fall under Zomie Survival even though it totally isn't that?
My main points are that people won't be able to easily find the gamemodes they are looking for, genres would cause stuff like DM players joining and ruining TTT, and would throw plenty of uncatagorized gamemodes (Cinema) into the trash, or "the misc. section". Whatever you guys want to call it.
Imo sorting much like the legacy browser would be best, where players could sort by map, gamemode, ping, and player count.

So you just want an "all" list on the current browser rather than being forced to go under each gamemode
I mentioned in another thread - to have a way to hide/unhide specific gamemodes from the list for our own client would be nice.
