• Is this addon offensive or breaks Steam Code of Conduct rules?

(I couldn't find an "Addon help/support" subforum so I hope this is the correct place) I have created an addon for the game called "ArTech Cancer Removal" which allows server owners to blacklist/filter players that use specific strings in their names. After the addon has been up for nearly a month I have had multiple people inform me that the addon is not allowed by Steam Workshop rules and/or Garry's Mod workshop rules under the reason of "offensive" and that it attacks players with said strings in their names. After reviewing the CoD and Workshop rules multiple times I haven't found any issues. I wanted to know if anyone could shed some more light on the matter (and hell, if RobotBoy himself could say something that would be absolutely fantastic). I have submitted a support ticket to Valve Support as well on the matter, but that may take some time. The addon in question can be found right here below: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=494271299 A chatlog with a "Friend" of mine calling the addon out and saying I should remove it because it breaks the steam rules: https://d.maxfile.ro/ivniyjihao.txt 12:38 AM - Cpt. Derp: you must be that depraved and sad to go out of your way to defend yourself on bullshit like this, wow i've never seen this degree of depravity in my life, but i guess it adds onto life experience for me

Okay, so. Let me list the problems with this entire e-drama, as well as the reasons no one cares/should care. 1. You just attempted to turn a private drama into a public one on Facepunch and would go so far as to indirectly humiliate another person in the process by posting the entire chatlog of our conversation, JUST BECAUSE I did not agree with you. And you need to ask an entire audience about it because you can't decide by yourself. 2. You basically cherrypicked the definitions of "offensive" and "attack" in your own favor, forgetting that there's more than one definition than the tumblr/SJW-infected version of "offensive" and "attack", and also forgetting the context of which the words were being used. 3. You've insulted me several times during the conversation and acted incredibly hostile. I'm a "tumblrina", I'm "scum". 4. You've acted completely immature that entire conversation and just generally made a "ground zero" exist in my brain. 5. You don't seem to know how to hold an intelligent and mature conversation and let your (too-)strongly held opinions influence what you type. I never said I disliked the addon or even care about it, BY ITSELF. I was just expressing my own opinion (backed up by Valve's own written rules of the Workshop) that it shouldn't be on the Workshop, but rather stay on the SVN. Do we really need more chaos? ...though the FNAF names could make this addon useful. Everything else is impractical. Blocking a star? Really? Throw in the alphabet too why don't you.
I don't get it. What part of valve's subscriber agreement dos this addon break? The only thing I can find is: "Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying Steam services, software or other content." in the Steam Online Conduct. However it doesn't restrict you from joining the servers like a SteamID-list, just change your name.
You're amazing at saying all the wrong things, you know that?

I don't know why people go this far to find reason to be bothered by what ever name or avatar someone may have. He even said my name Cpt. Derp offends him, why? MLP? Not even related to MLP. My point in that argument was that his addon was intended to "offend" other users in the context the rules described. He based his counter-argument on a faulty socially-influenced definition of the word "offensive". Regardless, the addon is not practical because he blacklisted common symbols that people can throw in their names to express themselves. Basically what my point is, he's allowing server operators to make it harder for people to play the game, by uploading where such a thing is deemed questionable. The FNAF part I can understand, maybe even MLP. But all kinds of common symbols, even clan tags are blacklisted. If many servers adopt this addon, that can become disruptive in a way. Which is not very likely, but you never know really. I'm saying if people feel that strongly about someones name, an addon like that shouldn't be so open. You should have to actually do things other than click a subscribe button to block people from connecting. He does have a good defense that its the server operators own choice if they want to load the addon. But the very intention of such an addon makes it against the rules and it shouldn't be on the Workshop at the very least. Although, no respectable server would install such an addon... then again I'd be very surprised with a game like this. Anyway. That's just my opinion. I could argue it for an hour or two in a private chat but I have no real interest bringing it to a massive forum. Don't know why he posted it here. Oh also, I'll change my name to Bob if it'll make his addon happy. Yeah. Bob.
I posted it here because you wanted me to. You wanted actual proof that it is not against the rules of Garry's mod workshop. What better place is there to ask besides the actual garry's mod forums? Edit: What about the French servers than ban anyone who doesn't speak French? What about the German servers that do the same? Or the Russians? How about something that hits closer to where you stand? The mlp servers that force people to use pony names and playermodels? I'm sure that that's offensive to people. Or the FNAF servers that force people to use the Freddy / Chicago models? As I've stated before, if anything this add-on prevents the blacklisted name users from joining servers that they will be ridiculed and laughed at.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: You are doing God's work, Artik. Put those nerds in their places. I do find it funny that it blocks the word "furry" and you appear to be one yourself, though.
I do find it funny that it blocks the word "furry" and you appear to be one yourself, though.
My name is a long story, but in short I'm not a furry, but because of that I get to see the kind of shit people do or say when they think I am one and it's hilarious.
So your avatar is a bait?
Eh, that is a very small part of why I have my name. Also, disregard the rating since my phone fucked up and it pressed that stupid rating instead of hitting reply. I'll fix it later. Edit: So the general consensus is that it is NOT offensive, and is NOT against the rules.
