• Couldn't allocate IP port

This new Gmod update is a nightmare. I cannot see any servers, despite me resetting my router to default factory settings, and I cannot connect via IP to any servers. I also cannot create any servers, LAN or Internet. I ALWAYS get this error: I just want to play Garry's mod with my sister, and evidently that's now impossible. I NEED support immediately.
Hi, glad to see there's atleast one playing girl. I have that error when I start a dedicated server and I try connecting on myself (Even with WAN IP). Maybe it's related to some firewall software that blocks it. Also, if you just updated your Gmod, I suggest you delete the whole Gmod FOLDER without deleting CGFs. Then restart Gmod you'll have a fresh install. No clue for the moment. Let's keep on bumping until a fix. Sincerly, Me.
Means that you're trying to assign it to a non-existent IP/port. Check the IP to make sure you own it.
We get this error while joining a game. So how can we "try" to assign to a non-existent port. Also, it only happens to me when I run a server(and I connect on myself.).
Sometimes on my box, if I assign an IP say 38.1.1.2 when I only own 38.1.1.1 (thorugh +ip) it will result in that.
Sometimes on my box, if I assign an IP say 38.1.1.2 when I only own 38.1.1.1 (thorugh +ip) it will result in that.
I've tried the IP parameter and still, no luck.
That's not cool... I hope there will be a fix for this...
I'm having this same error message. I can join few (if not all, I don't know) servers on the list and I can host a listen server. When I try to join my dedicated server engine crashes with that message, nothing else. Is the bug with dedicated or maybe with gmod?
Try using a different port.
This problem can't go any further... Let's all figure what's the problem. I have a 192.168.1.x IP. Linksys router. Vista 32 bits. Two network cards. Asus motherboard with nForce 680i. (P5N32-E SLI) Windows firewall : DISABLED. Anyone has some settings similar?
http://portforward.com/routers.htm Forward some ports. You could also try playing via Hamachi, No idea if it actually works with source games but I guess it's worth a shot?
DMZ didn't fix the problem. I have tried multiple ports but no luck. When i change the port from 27015 tho i get this error Engine Error Couldn’t allocate any hltv IP port That's on any port from 27014 down and 27016 up Some Verizon router. Vista 32 bit Built in network card. Gigabyte Mobo with 7600 gs Firewall off DMZ on
Once again, try Hamachi. Since this is really a more of a steam related issue you should probably check out their support. http://support.steampowered.com/
Hamachi DOES work with source games. I've tried it. Sometimes it won't appear in the LAN list, but you can still use the connect command in the console.
This problem must be something to do with the updated dedicated server or Gmod itself. It has happened never before and now only change to the setup is the update. When I changed server port from default to something else error message got also changed a bit. Now it's "Couldn't allocate any hltv IP port". Is this only happening to people who are trying to connect to their own servers on a lan or dedicated servers running on a same house or computer as the player? Maybe it would be possible to connect with Hamachi, but that's fully unneeded software layer and is not an option for fixing this annoying issue.
This problem happens when hosting a server on ANY ports and joining ANY game. So, when the srcds is open and running, there's no way Gmod can join a game.
I made few tests and found out that if you have orangebox srcds running, you are not able to join orangebox games. CS:S goes fine, but TF2 and latest Gmod end with that error. If Garry needs memory dumbs we are able to provide them. Now it seems to be up to Garry to check if this is an issue with only Gmod dedicated server and if he can somehow fix this, or atleast report it to the Valve. Can someone check what happens if you run TF2 dedicated and try to join a game in TF2 or Gmod?
I don't have TF2 or any Source2 engine games(Else than Gmod.). I think it happens on 100% of the dedicated servers but most of the people don't play on the same computer as they host. Let's keep this thread alive until it is fixed!
I have the same issue. I hope this gets fixed soon because I am going crazy with out being able to play zombie survival.
Yes, if your hosting a TF2 server, that same thing happens just like gmod. So I'm sure it's a the Source 2007 dedicated that is causing the problem.
I am getting crazy. You must fix this. ValVe! Come on! Fix it, it's probably under 100 lines of codes, what are you waiting for?
To save some time. FamousCra said a clean install of everything will not fix it. He said his tried it 3 times and it didn't work
I just found this thread, however it's as helpful as the other one :( I hope this gets fixed really soon.
I sent a steam support ticket hoping they will fix this. In fact, I suppose Garry will most likely fix it before Steam/ValVe.
A small question... if you want to play with your sister, why not just start a listen server? It's not like you 2 need a dedicated server, even though in this case it wouldn't be dedicated as it's running on the same machine as one of the clients. A dedicated server is supposed to be dedicated, why would they have bothered with listen servers if they weren't? I think this whole mess is caused by the dedicated server listening on a port that gmod also want's to listen on for whatever reason (hltv? (whatever that is), the ad bar in the new gmod?).
That is right, Gmod and dedicated server are fighting for the same ports, it ends up in a crash.
Then don't host a dedicated? Host a listen server.
What's the point in hosting a 24/7 listen server... ?
Listen servers have to have gmod running(correct me if I'm wrong)and i rather not waste RAM and CPU power to run gmod when it could go straight to a server. A few friend and I have tried hosting listen servers because of the dedicated server problem and it's nothing but lag and crashes.
