Whats your experience in learning lua coding? did you go to school or did you learn by yourself?
How difficult was it?
Taught myself. Learning syntax and all the keywords is easy but learning how to think like a programmer and translate your ideas into code takes time and practice. You won't be writing map votes or entire gamemodes anytime soon but you definitely can start
i started learning lua by editing guns, from there i looked into huds(quickly put that down until i got better at optimizing such things)
from there after i became comfortable enough to edit and fix any errors that might have popped up i created my own entity (gave ammo to any gun you were currently holding (except hl2 guns)
once you get one thing working it really just unfolds before you, any time i got stuck on a situation i asked facepunch what the best course of action would be. there are unlimited possibilities with lua and gmod so it became my video game, i prefer coding for gmod more then fallout 4 or call of duty now
Think legos but the legos can be morphed into whatever shape you want them.
I would suggest taking something from garrysmod.org and trying to fix it to work with current gmod lua. start out small. old guns, old entities stuff like that, its all about being motivated enough to start working on it. dont give up when things get hard, just think to yourself there has to be a way i just have to find it.
Great place to start is

Search on the left is great.
When you cant find it in there go to google and look up
"<what you want to do> gmod lua"
9/10 someone has done something similar to what you want look for results from wiki.garrysmod or facepunch.
Guys with brown or green names on facepunch normally know what they are talking about with lua
