Hi there, i've been trying to open workshop files in hammer editor but the only thing i found is how to convert .gma file into a folder full of files. Is there any way how to convert it into vmf or bsp or open the folder in hammer editor ? thanxerino
You have to extract the .gma then you need to decompile the .bsp into a vmf. But be warned that a lot of mappers won't like their maps being decompiled and edited.
How do i extract gma ? Is there a program for that ?
There's a gmad.exe in steamapps/common/GarrysMod/bin
Yes but it extracts the .gma file into a folder. And i dont want a folder i want one file as i mentioned before.

It is not there. I need .bsp or .vmf file.

If the gma was a map addon, it is in there. you will find a Bsp file. You will not find a vmf file
Whats the .gma addons name or what map you looking for ?
He is going to be in for a world of fun using Hammer if he can't get past the gma stage...
Have you tried asking the mappers? Most of them should be smart about backing up their vmfs.
Assuming they would trust some random person. Exactly what are you going to do with the vmfs?
I'm trying to get ttt_waterworld to a vmf so i can know how the slides are made. (i'm making a water park) can someone extract it or tell me what materials are used?
I'm pretty sure there was console command mat_crosshair that shows name of the material you're aiming at. I don't know if it still works

Please don't make the slides the way they did, please! They are so damn bad! Don't make detailed stuff like that with brushes, use models for that otherwise they'll appear all jagged/off grid.
