ScriptEnforcer (which acts as a DRM for gmod scripts) has been shutdown without notice. All scripts using ScriptEnforcer will produce errors immediately meaning all devs will have to rewrite their scripts without protection. More DRM-free scripts here we come? Or will there soon be a clone to take its place?
Edit: Was this the right place to post? Seems like the only Garry's mod related news.
This should probably go in the gmod subforum rather than SH.

Yeah, I wasn't sure because it was news, but at the same time it was about gmod and Lua scripts. If a mod could move it to the appropriate location, that would be great.

Lots of the older members stopped playing gmod years ago, Facepunch is more of a general community that loosely shares a common interest in video games than a gmod forum and it's been this way for nearly a decade.
It stared out as just a help forum for gmod but quickly evolved into something bigger. :sex101:
[sp]I haven't played gmod other than to patch my workshop uploads since the toybox was removed. The UI and essential mods have changed completely since then and I'm too old and busy to relearn gmod. :v:[/sp]

Can someone explain to me the importance of this? I don't have much of a clue what a DRM service is, and while it doesn't affect me, I'm curious as to the role it played with ScriptFodder and scripts sold therein.
Sorry for being casual nub.

Simply put DRM is software that attempts to make sure only legitimate paying customers are using a piece of software. Unfortunately however it usually gets cracked somewhat quickly (depending on the type) and often serves as a hindrance to legitimate customers.
In the case of ScriptEnforcer however, the code the dev sells is only part of the entire code. Certain key pieces or more often bits of code that tell the rest of the code to go ahead about it's business are hosted on ScriptEnforcer's servers behind a lock of sorts. If you have a legit copy of the software, it asks script enforcer for the held code (while giving a key and an "id" of sorts) and if SE accepts it it returns the code or values.
This is basically what I've summed up from hearing about it. I may be a bit off so keep that in mind.
Edit:
[del]Assuming the OP isn't spewing bullshit (did not check the link yet),[/del] (<-- nvm it's really happening) this means code that needs SE wont work once SE is down (since they wont be able to get the held code).

I think SE is already down. That's why the people is complaining. He didn't announce his "retirement", he just disappeared. He also got banned from Scriptfodder forums, and doesn't want to be contacted by anyone.
I appreciate the explanation. I'm sure another one will soon take it's place.

That's why I've told everyone to contact him.

Well, judging by the last words written in his SF forum profile, he doesn't look like being very... communicative. Do you know anything about the reason of his decision? I'm just curious. All this SE shutdown stuff doesn't affect me at all.

Just read the thread that's linked, and you'll realize me telling everyone to add him is to spite him.
And good riddance, DRM has no place in gmod. All source code should always be readable so the user can change it as his or her will.

Cause god forbid the people who don't want hours of hard work plagarised, right?
Good riddance. The last thing we need is DRM in gmod, as it completely goes against what gmod is - a game where people are free to create whatever they want and share it with eachother.

The code that is run on your garry's mod should be up to you. Also when things are under the GNU license people can add to the code and help they can Improve it, and YOU the end user can control what the code itself is doing.
