• What would you want in a roleplaying gamemode.

So after reading this thread: http://facepunch.com/threads/1176387 i got to wondering what would happen to the roleplaying scene after the new Gmod 13 update. Obviously DarkRP will still be updated to this new version but i think people will be more inclined to try out new things and i know that most users want a fresh and new gamemode. I have a lot of free time coming up and this would be one of my main projects, but i really want to know what everyone here wants. I don't want to create another DarkRP but i'm unsure in which direction the community wants a roleplaying gamemode to go. So any suggestions here on how YOU would like it to be i'll collaborate into one big list then ( this is open to changes ) everyone can vote for what they want to see go into it. I'm not just an ideas guy, i've been creating things for garrysmod for about 2 years now and i've ran a fairly popular community using a custom gamemode i created from scratch so don't think i'm all talk and no delivery. I just don't want to create something that everyone hates. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
There are themes out there, like perp aka real-life, hl2, stalker. it's more up to the community to make what they want, if you want to contribute something to the masses, i'd suggest creating a solid gamemode with one of those themes or some base like Tiramisu.
It really depends on what you like and don't like. Some people(like myself) prefer a real life roleplay like PERP. Some people like HL2RP. Like I said, do what you like.
Make it modular and user friendly, so that people can easily modify it to suit whatever theme they want their server to have. I'd suggest either making it into a framework, or having a configuration file that pretty much controls the entire gamemode.
I would want sandbox, but with money and a pocket. That's all you need, basically.
People like having Goals. In DarkRP, people's goals could be having shit tons of money and guns, etc. In OpenAura servers, perhaps rank / items / money / suits. These are just examples.
This thread gets made every month, and there's still not an answer. The answer is nothing. People seemingly don't want fucking anything on an RP script but at the same time they want it to have all the stuff they want that often don't affect the gameplay itself. So the answer is everything too. See how stupid this whole thing gets? I'd say the solution is don't hear to what people want and just do what YOU want.

I'll make the gamemode and if it's good, people will play. Cheers.
I'll kill myself if another gamemode involving 'Bus-Drivers' and 'Money-Printers' comes along. We should all be able to be whoever we want to be, except that we'll have to RP it very well. Want to be a police officer? Just go to someone who's created a certain job for that, and they'll let you in. Want to be an Accountant, but don't want to apply for it? No problem, just remember that you won't get trained for a certain job if you don't apply normally to someone with RP experience. So you basically need to know how exactly an Accountant works.

Make it more casual. Why is DarkRP popular? Because it's less of a Roleplay, and more of a game. There's many gamemodes about roleplaying that requires dedication and imagination, but few gamemodes like DarkRP where you can just pick up and play with classes with separate abilities and a common goal for everyone to make money. Many people feel that serious roleplaying gamemodes are just slow and boring. Make roleplaying that isn't so heavily based on players doing everything by themselves or for themselves, and give them a common goal.
make your own server with that setting then? or do you not understand the message here
I'm just bored with the "Earn Money, Wait for someone with the right Job or admin rank, and Repeat" method. Also, I don't want to create a server. I would rather roleplay with a friendly group of roleplayers than create a server and oversee everything. Being an owner would be bloody boring, and you'd need to stick to the rules yourself in order to keep everyone happy.
I would like to see other RP's then DarkRP i sometimes get sick on how many servers use this gamemode by day. I am busting my ass off at the moment to learn some LUA but it is hard. Some people just download Dark RP put it online and mod it with some pre-made addons. I hate to see that.
DarkRP is the only Roleplay that is easy to just pick up and play. Until someone invents a new Roleplay that is just as easy and fun for new or casual players, DarkRP will always be the most popular since it's got a monopoly on its genre.
Items and upgrades
Items and upgrades
The one thing that ruins roleplay.
The one thing that ruins roleplay.
Fully agree. Example: Gangwars RP.
Fully agree. Example: Gangwars RP.
implying that gangwars RP was ever RP
implying that gangwars RP was ever RP
It was a bit at the start of it. - Before the big armor we have to have every item epic to survive update. - But not much. Best example for me how much the ppl's willing to be the best can ruin a great gamemode.
If anyone want's to help me with some idea's and ethics.etc just add me on steam: thebamfordz I'm open to anything and if anyone wants to contribute to the project i've setup a bitbucket private repo which we can share and i don't mind guiding new coders, just message me there.

Modules in which you can switch out RP themes. So let's say you want to play Stalker RP one day you can just switch out a folder or two and it work without hiccups. That's the biggest problem with a lot of RP gamemodes released; a lot of the time you are limited to what the creator has decided. This is why I think DarkRP has been so great for people; it's become easily modifiable, even though I don't find it to be the prettiest or most manageable gamemode.
So, basically Schemas? *cough* Tiramisu. *cough* OpenAura.
Yeah but even then, those modules are extremely basic in choices. If I remember right there's about two; one is Real Life RP, and the other is HL2R; please correct me if I'm wrong though. I would love to see much more available options that allows for a greater customization of exactly what you like.

My friend has actually made a modular gamemode where the owner can enable/disable any module at runtime. Modules can be anything from experience to inventories.
Cyber Animations. I want the first one to be suprise buttsex
