Is there a catalogue of all finished gamemodes that are functional and regularly updated somewhere? This subsection sort of helps, but it's fairly cluttered with incomplete/unusable WIPs and broken, outdated gamemodes. Is there a better place, something similar to the Steam Workshop, but for Garry's Mod gamemodes? Thanks.
Someone should dedicate a web project to this.
*looks at Spencer Sharkey* Something similar to his GMod module site at http://modules.gmodwiki.com/ would be nice.
Someone should dedicate a web project to this.
I'm actually considering it, hence the question. It'd have three main categories, "Complete", "Work in Progress", "Outdated". Complete would be for gamemodes that currently work and are still maintained. Work in Progress would be, well, for WIPs or gamemodes coming in the future but not ready yet and Outdated for those who haven't been updated/don't work anymore. Then of course, sub categories.. "Roleplay", "Shooters", "Arcade", etc. With some sort of user-moderation system for players to "flag" outdated/broken gamemodes, etc.

If you mind that I introduce an idea, it would be nice if you made it so when users upload unique gamemodes they can add videos and whatnot to promote it.
I'd do it if people were to actually use it. People seem to use http://modules.gmodwiki.com so, maybe.
Well i would most definitely use it, i have a hard time finding good custom working roleplay gamemodes for garrys mod
Yeah, I would love to use it to either promote custom gamemodes (not edits of anything). or at least find something people want to see more of.

Sweet, thanks. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] Make sure you let the communities flag something as "outdated" or "broken"! Enough votes and its category should be changed. :) Maybe the uploader can get a message; "Not really broken/outdated? Contact us for further investigation." Maybe trusted/highly rated members' flag votes count for more.
Can we add our private gamemodes? Maybe you should have an option so people can tag their servers to a certain gamemode, so people can try out gamemodes on a live server before they download them? Edit: It might also be nice to say what your gamemode was based on (if it was based on something), so we can filter out all the Dark RP clones / edits xD
Just ban DarkRP edits all together unless they are full conversions.
Just ban DarkRP edits all together unless they are full conversions.
Ban all gamemode edits, or shuffle them into their own category.
It's not that bad with edits, as long as they are edited a lot.
Just ban DarkRP edits all together unless they are full conversions.
This is exactly what not to do.
Probably some sort of filter so you can choose what kind of things to hide (roleplay gamemodes, edits, etc)
Don't even add a section for rp, do the gmod community a favor.
Don't even add a section for rp, do the gmod community a favor.
Yeah because all rp is shit
Yeah because all rp is shit
Just because u don't like rp, and find it shit, doesn't mean other's do.
Just because u don't like rp, and find it shit, doesn't mean other's do.
Somebody doesn't understand sarcasm. lol he rated me dumb because he doesn't want to admit his stupidity hah
Back on track, this is an awesome idea! Maybe it should have bug reports and fixes too...
You could make it query the master list and get a list of servers that run gamemodes, and it would be somewhat live :P
There should be a feature to add videos to watch and see the gamemodes in action... Oh and photos too.
Yeah because all rp is shit
Half Life 2 rp is good though.
Half Life 2 rp is good though.
boring, repetitive, restrictive, unfair advantages over player when you're higher up, not even any serious, anything of the nature. before you bring up darkrp is shit, look at it. maybe it attracts dumb players for the simplicity - but look at the brighter side. there is creativity, i was on Serious Roleplaying Hell earlier and we played basketball for gods sake. it's flexible, no need to sacrifice anything for another feature. it's code is user-friendly too.
darkrp[...]'s code is user-friendly
I'm rather worried at what you must have experienced to make you think DarkRP is nice in comparison to them.

Nobody asked for your opinions on RP. I'm not a huge fan of RP, but you don't see me posting in every thread about it saying how bad or how good it is. Every time there's a post/thread about RP, people come in and talk shit, then the thread gets derailed and people no longer want to follow the thread. Back on topic, how's the progress on this?
