The Elder Scrolls RP [TES RP] is a new game mode in development by GT-Gaming. It is built from the ground-up on the clockwork framework, and will include many new features that have not been included in an RP game mode before. A custom map is currently in development, and we will be opening alpha and beta access as we go along. This will raise awareness for the game mode, but will also give us a chance to see what improvements to make and find any bugs.
Please understand that we expect the development to take a while, so the current state is not representative of the final game mode. Alpha access is available after filling out a small application on the forums and testers will be given a new forum rank. However, beta access will be not need any application process but that will be at least 4 weeks off so take advantage of alpha access now and get a head start and help shape the gamemode!
The roleplay will be based in the 4th era of Tamriel history, and will be based near or in Skyrim. This allows us to be flexible with our canon and make it original, but also include lore and idea from The Elder Scrolls universe. There will be a total of 10 factions by release, which we will add as we progress.
Features
These are some of the features we plan to implement. Some will be prioritised over others, and others may be added or removed during development.
Hunting – Players will be able to hunt animals for meat and hide. These can then be cooked, sold, or crafted into other items.

Crafting – Players will have the ability to craft items from materials they've found or bought. This will encourage an in-game economy, so there is less need for NPC salesmen. An example of a crafted item is a bag made from deer hide, or clothing.

Immersive world – A variety of features, coupled with a serious roleplay environment, should fully immerse the players. We aim to make the game fun and true to The Elder Scrolls universe.
Custom map – A custom map will be used in late alpha / early beta, and will be designed to fit specific needs. We aim to have a fairly open and exciting map, which also includes various villages and towns. This will enable players to create diverse groups and factions, which should enhance the roleplay experience.
Skills – We currently have specific flags depending on your profession which will later play a bigger role in the game as development progresses. Professions will later be earned or bought from our store which allows you to fulfil some advanced skills like alchemy! Other examples of skills will be an armourer and weapons expert.
Vast Content - We are in the middle of creating new viewmodels and playermodels for our massive selection of weapons, armours and races which will be estimated at 500MB of content. I know this may seem bad in some cases but that's because there is no substitute for the immersion that it offers into this gamemode.
Lots of weapons and armour - Pretty self explanatory. We currently have models for swords, battle axes, war axes, bows, clothing and armour. Unfortunately work needs to be done to these models for them to be functional so they shall be added through alpha.
Important Attributes - For once in a roleplay schema your attributes will be more affected and useful than before as you gain attributes for eating and taking skill potions; this is combined with a longer lasting effect time to give the players who take time to eat and spend money on potions the advantage in their endeavours.
Races - Choose from any of these 10 races as soon as you enter the server without whitelist! - Imperial, Breton, Nord, Redguard, Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, Orsmer, Khajiit, Argonian
(Note the first 5 will be playable from alpha whereas Khajiit and Argonian are currently being worked on.)
Sandbox Environment - Create your characters story from beginning to end, shaped by the friends you make and the factions you join. This gamemode is one of the most "freedom" filled gamemodes on the market restricted to serious roleplay.
Three types of combat! - From alpha you will have the chance to use a range of melee weapons as you would expect. However, once we reach late alpha / beta we will start to introduce archery for those who choose to follow the path of hunter, ranger or marksman. For the more intelligent of characters there is also the path of the mages guild which unlocks the use of spells for that character which will be released in the beta stage. The reverse of this is the necromancers cult for those less willing to serve good.

It'd be nice if we can see some images of what the gamemode looks like so far.

This isn't all of them but its just to give you an idea. Also sorry about the big watermark that may seem like advertising but its to prevent image theft. (I know its not all my property but if you have a problem go make it yourself?)
Are you serious?
I mean, great job stealing some pictures from the internet, and then slapping them on a background and typing the class names with a downloaded font pack.
Anyways, I see a whole lot of logistic preparation (alpha keys for a gmod rp server lol) but I don't see any content at all, no meat to this project, ive seen this happen to quite a few projects (some my own) where you focus far too much on handling the player side and the advertisement that you forget to actually make something that would draw people in the first place.
Seriously though this little ad is incredibly vague and incredibly optimistic, give me a reason to even play before you start shoving donations and alpha keys down my throat, will you?
Finally, how do you plan to complete a project of such scale on Garry's Mod, let alone the source engine? I mean, 500 mb of content? 10 factions? an open map? are you sure you're advertising a gamemode, and not an actual game?
Learn to read.
I am not interested at the majority of the text. I prefer looking at some images or videos of what the gamemode looks like, I know Skyrim pretty well so most of these things are common.
Yeah man, some good reception here eh?
Seriously, the watermarks need to go
You pasted some images on a background, added some text and then watermark it?
Seems unnecessary. Get some media to show off your gamemode, too.
Subliminal Message in there somewhere im sure... Try less branding maybe?
Images will come soon. We know how most of the code will be done, we just need to do it. The map is pretty much ready for screenshots when Brawlers gets back from his weekend holiday. We also have a model pack with faction models, so all we need to do is headhack for armours and such to make them into items that all factions can use.
Basically, expect more visuals next week.
The original OP was basically to let people know that it will be done. This is very early in development, and somewhat abitious. But when it is done, we hope it will be enjoyable.
As well to point out those are not called 'factions' they're called 'races' they're both completely different in skyrim.

And in real life they would be defined as species. Lore will be in game, but for now it's not really an issue, is it?
But factions are what you join not what you be.
It's best to make sense so that players understand. It's best to stick to what skyrim says as they made this game therefore they know best.
I shall try my best to answer all of the posts above.
@bluemist - The way clockwork works is that you specify factions. In-Game it is actually a race selection screen but for the mechanics they are factions. Within the game there are factions so you are right in those aspects.
@Effektiv - Note taken. Thanks.
@Breny - I understand that this is little to go on screenshot wise which is why I tried to show you some of the aesthetics before the game. I shall create some screenshots of the map once the map is at its v1 stage.
There will also be screenshots for the races when I compile them into player models and for the sweps once they are ready. Unfortunately I can't show any screenshots of the gamemode until I get a dev key from Kuro.
@ntzu - I understand your skepticism and this is little to go on yes but as stated in this post and by musketeer, this is very early development as we are only 2 weeks into development and I am the only dev working on it having to do all of the coding, sweps, rigging and mapping. The content pack is actually reasonable at 500MB as Gmod.biz is roughly like 2 GB.
@thefreemann - Stop following my posts to troll them please. I am beyond listening to you.
And to anyone who rated my post dumb; please make a reply stating how it is dumb or try to give some constructive criticism. I am away for the weekend but when I get back on monday I will be straight back to development and we may drop this whole "alpha key" stuff.
Genius.
Definitely anticipating this, can't wait. I am very impressed by all the work you put into the game so far, thanks for providing an abundance of content for me to look over while I thoroughly enjoy viewing your thread. I particularly enjoy the section about 'Vast Content' as it informs me as to how much content is being presented, thus allowing me to further anticipate this wonderful effort.
Looking forward to any updates, keep me posted.
Another dream gamemode showcase from Gt-Gaming/Gamers/fantasisers
After i saw alpha for a small fee i have completely lost all hope in this.
That was after i saw no content and already confirmed this for failure.
Do you know how many threads that started like this ended in success? None.
If this makes it to alpha and more than 10 people pay for it i'll paypal you 600 usd
Good job on the thread though very informative and paragraphy
lmao are clockwork edits actual things on facepunch now
whyyy clockwork is really bad

We may be scrapping the pay-to-join in alpha. It was initially to ensure that the server stays up, and so that we don't get trolls joining. However, I feel an application system may be easier and nicer to do. We could probably keep the server up if people just donate throughout the development. The application shouldn't be long or difficult, just to make sure that trolls don't get in. I will also make a list of people who are alpha testers, to make sure the password isn't given out to friends etc. I might also have a part of the application where you can list your friends who are already testing so they can vouch for you.
Thoughts? We don't expect alpha to be up in at least 2 weeks, so it's all subject to change. Don't lose hope, we're still developing!
whyyy clockwork is really bad
It's more suited to our need. This will be a serious RP game mode, so clockwork allows us to have default RP features, like the player UI. It also allows us to add our own content.
lmao are clockwork edits actual things on facepunch now
Yep, unfortunately. It's become the DarkRP of the "serious" roleplaying community.
Anyway, everything I had to say has already been said before. Needs more content, you are overly ambitious etc etc. You should've held off on creating this thread until you had some actual content to show and was nearing completion.
Text based rp about a game built around combat.
How exactly do you plan on making that work
Before you say like any other srs rp works. They don't really work considering everytime anyone tries to kill someone they disagree and call an admin or rage
@LuaScript - Again I see why you may say all this but as I have said to people previously, we are barely into the development as I need to wait for a dev key from Kuro. I also doubt people will pay for alpha so it will be practically open we are deciding. Also we are already in alpha as we are slowly adding content to the server when it becomes compatible e.g. race player models, weapon models and armour models, alongside other core edits.
@Johnny Guitar - Facepunch is a place to discuss everything Garry's Mod and more. You may not like clockwork or many gamemodes at all but I still have a right to post stuff here.
@godlike - I don't really see a suitable substitute as I don't like tiramisu and there aren't may other serious roleplay gamemodes out there and making one of our own is out of the question.
@Jocken300 - You are right with what you say; Clockwork is everywhere like DarkRP but on the flipside it also gets the players in if done right, therefore It is useful to us. Other than that I also agree that we did put this thread up too soon but sometimes too soon is useful as It allows publicity to come in. I will try to get our alpha server up soon if I get a devkey then I will upload some images although it won't be much. What sort of screenshots do you want to see?
@LuaScript - It's more of an active serious roleplay. You will be expected to do all the /me's but you will still need to come to a mutual agreement with the combatant somewhere, otherwise the gamemode will degrade to a more semi-serious combat where you just play to win. I like that idea but it may scare the serious audience off who are more likely to like the rest of the gamemode whereas the action ones may not.

Please do not post saying this is a shit gamemode before reading all the other posts.
If someone else has already said it then keep it to yourself as we know.
Content will come soon just be patient. The purpose of this thread was to inform not to demonstrate.

It can actually work. I've seen a good mixture of combat as well as passive RP work on servers before, such as Project Utopia and Dead Zone: Rebirth. It's all about having a good playerbase and a proper administration

I'm not saying that Clockwork is shit, because that would be outright dishonest. Clockwork is a pretty decent gamemode, however it has infested the GMod RP community like a plague (much like its predecessors). All RP servers are running Clockwork now, and they are all running the same generic schemas. As a result all RP servers have started looking more or less the same and have very little originality to them. Anyway, let's not turn this into another "Clockwork sucks" thread.
You're currently getting the wrong kind of publicity because you didn't wait with putting this up. People expect to see actual features in action in threads like this. Screenshots of your map, what features will be unique to your CW schema etc.
Also, this is the "Gamemode & Addon Releases" section where we are supposed to discuss different gamemodes and addons. It seems like the real purpose of your thread is to advertise your upcoming server rather than your gamemode, though. Doesn't one of the section's rules state that you aren't allowed to advertise a gamemode edit unless you've made some extensive modifications to the gamemode?

Wow. Looks good. Can't wait.
Thank you for another constructive post. I can only agree again that the originality in clockwork schemas is going as all HL2RP servers are roughly the same as there isn't much to change. Same goes for most NewVegas.
