What's this? It's basically a rehash of my older (way older) lame attempt at coding into an even lamer attempt at coding. Why am I reposting it? Well, it's not like I have to share with you anyway, just ask and I'll remove it. It's also a pretty big change. Okay, fine, I just don't like having download name differ from the thread name. Now onto the main deal: It's a sentry-like turret installation that will shoot down any NPCs, players and physics objects that come near it with extreme fervour. Features: -As promised, will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. -Flashy SFX. Particle, view-shake, on-hit, refraction and sound effects. -Will not shoot through walls and obstacles in a lame fashion. -Three separate modes: * Standard - Full damage and knockback. * Incendiary - A lot less damage and knockback. Ignites anything it hits. * Plasma - Slightly Less damage and knockback. Fires explosive rounds. -Adjustable: * Damage/Distance * Force/Accuracy -Can selectively attack: * Physics objects (will ignore stationary ones) * Players (you can fool it by standing still or crouching past it) * NPCs (will not shoot down friendly ones) -Contraption-friendly. Will only query constraints on activation/deactivation. -Duplicator support. Go thank tad2020 for helping with this. I mean NOW. -Backwards compatibility. This is just for kicks. Video by Sgt. I like it! Got a video of it?
Got a video of it?
Sadly not. My netspeed is slower than a dead turtle.
Very kewl =3 Wish i could do stuff like this =P Got mai download.
Hey Citizen 101,I want your Steam Name
You are turning out to be my new favorite coder, good job on all your (very quick) current releases, i've got em all.
This is very nifty! Aside from the small problem of your own turret targeting yourself, it's good!
Aside from the small problem of your own turret targeting yourself, it's good!
That's intended, actually: the STool isn't admin-only, so without that, you could spawn a bunch and, well, that wouldn't be pretty. But this way you have to watch out, plus, it becomes a bit of a meta-game, which I consider a good thing to have. Not sure if that really works, I'm not much of a multiplayer person myself.
Is there a way to increase its radius of detection? I have the slider set as far as it'll go in the proper direction, but it still has a very small range. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a way to increase its radius of detection? I have the slider set as far as it'll go in the proper direction, but it still has a very small range. Am I doing something wrong?
Maximum range should be about half of construct.
Is there a way to increase its radius of detection? I have the slider set as far as it'll go in the proper direction, but it still has a very small range. Am I doing something wrong?
You know, the slider doesn't HAVE to be the limit.
You know, the slider doesn't HAVE to be the limit.
Actually it does. Sorry.
Maximum range should be about half of construct.
I've got it set all the way to the left and it still barely reaches out to anything. Am I misreading the way the sliders are supposed to be set up?
You get extra points for using a superior website to upload on.
I've got it set all the way to the left and it still barely reaches out to anything. Am I misreading the way the sliders are supposed to be set up?
No, you're alright. But if you expect it to shoot all the way across Freespace or something - there's no go. The larger the radius, the more props there are, the costlier the calculations it performs. Didn't think anyone would need a larger radius, myself.
You get extra points for using a superior website to upload on.
Sweet.
Sadly not. My netspeed is slower than a dead turtle.
I was about to put at the end of the video: By Citizen 101: Slower than a dead turtle. You can see the effects better on the actual page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83xwIA1kd9I

That's a sign that it didn't duplicate properly... Which really shouldn't happen. Did you do anything to it?
Excellent. Can I add it to the OP? Edit: Fuck. "Cheater Turret"? That's a sign that it didn't duplicate properly... Which really shouldn't happen. o.m.g wow is nice!
i have not had a chance to test this but does it work with stargate shields?
i have not had a chance to test this but does it work with stargate shields?
If they can stop bullets, it should.
Amazing...This would be a perfect setup for any singleplayer wars or even maybe some multiplayer gamemodes. What would make it more better is if you could spawn it and when its in the ready mode you mount it and fire. Thanks anyway for the release
Amazing...This would be a perfect setup for any singleplayer wars or even maybe some multiplayer gamemodes. I wanted to make it do that too at some point, but it didn't quite work out.
I like it, and my only peeve with it is that the turret turns sideways when shooting something. Is this happening to anyone else?
I like it, and my only peeve with it is that the turret turns sideways when shooting something. Is this happening to anyone else?
That's not right at all. Not sure what could possibly be causing it, unless you mean it does that when being welded to something else (and this something is moving). Which I'm not sure how to fix.
This was a lot better than I expected. good job What's the difference between bullets and plasma? They seem to do the exact same thing (except the blue) Also, some different fire mode ideas: Sniper: Fires one powerful and accurate shot every 2 seconds or so. Freeze: Like fire, but instead freezes props/npcs/players. Explosive: Shoots rockets/cannons/etc.
What's the difference between bullets and plasma? They seem to do the exact same thing (except the blue)
Plasma shots do damage in radius (and ignite wooden props), so they're generally more effective against crowds or complicated contraptions or shields. They also impair player's hearing for a second on direct hit.
Also, some different fire mode ideas: Sniper: Fires one powerful and accurate shot every 2 seconds or so. Freeze: Like fire, but instead freezes props/npcs/players. Explosive: Shoots rockets/cannons/etc.
That's pretty good. Coincidentally, I thought of including shotgun and sniper modes off the bat, but I'm still not sure how to balance them out. Can't promise I'll ever actually get to it, I'm relatively busy with being lazy.
Now I can finally plasmaed at zombies and tried to blew them up.
Can this be mouse-aimed? And by that I mean wired to the X, Y and Z from a Pod Controller and used from a seat. Because this could be mounted on a vehicle and then it would be decisively AWESOME.
