Sobotniks efficent futuristic method of land travel.

Evening fine gentlemen, as you know due to a shortage of horses there have been some say problems in moving coal away from mines to canals or cities. However because of Napoleon and his need to kill horses I devised a most novel method to travel over land.

It requires just a good supply of coal and water, and with enough time for it to garner momentum it can reach several miles an hour.

It does very well in most conditions, unless the incline on a track is greater than 1 in 50.

Here it is travelling down a line on a multiplayer server I went on recently to allow people to ride on it.

However few people wished to ride it, even with the attachment of a simple wagon at the back to stand on and put various objects on it failed to interest the people on the server.
It used a mixture of both vanilla and PHX props, the phx props being used for the wheels, boiler and the floor of the locomotive. If you have any suggestions please post them.
It is named Dilly and is mostly based off the Wylam Dilly locomotive in the museum of Edinburgh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wylam_Dilly
I very much suspect it is the way of the future, and quite possibly by the end of the century we can build locomotives that will attain 30mph!
It lacks detail
I dare not ride that mechanical abomination, lest we accelerate with such speed that my blood would begin to boil.
This is too much. I'd rather pay more for horses.
It looks nothing like the real Wylam Dilly train.
Needs fat wheels.

I know, I just called it after it. It looks more like the Steam Elephant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_Elephant
Also I upgraded it a bit.

Halarious. Make the Model-T next. Then the Wright Flyer
You pretend to move this hulk of metal by lighting a bonfire inside it? I have no time for such nonsense.
What a marvelous feat of engineering! The elegance at which the machine behaves mimics life itself! To think that a human can attain a speed of more than 10 miles an hour is near unbelievable. What are the observed affects on the body of traveling at such a speed?

Well from mere observation and going at such a speed myself, I managed to stay on the footplate until a certain speed where I then slide off. Viewed from the side a traveller appears to be walking on the footplate and if they jump then it takes the laws of momentum completely out of the equation and the person jumping will stay in the same place whilst the engine moves on without them.
Needs more tender. Or at least a box for coal to go in.
Choo choo motherfuckers.
I say old bean, what splendidly marvelous feat of science you have there! May I ask what is your secret to this mechanical devil, how you manage to use the heat of fire and the bubbling of ordinary water? Some sort of magical alchemy must be present, indeed.
I find it rather mystifying that people on these so-called "servers" you reference would have no interest in such a revolutionary machine!

judging by the name of this thread, I expected either a repost of "flat plate tracks" or a pedrail wheel. >.>

They probably thought it would explode again like last time.

I say chap, tis why you use boiler plate! A boiler explosion sure is a terrible thing indeed.
It can be particularly humorous, an example of socratic humor, though.

edit: i think the guy won a darwin award for that. >.<
I actually find this method of land travel to be quite inefficient and archaic.
You, sir, have disappointed my expectations.

I expected nothing less from a man of your stature. Go back to "working" or whatever activity it is that your kind would perform for leisure.
I notice that the train is only on straight tracks. Can it go around a turn?

It can, however I have not tested it that much going around corners, I shall test.
It doesn't seem terribly stable looking, perhaps another set of wheels on the front?

Stable looking? This thing doesn't even have a safety valve.
