No particular order, I'll try and explain some of the history behind each image as well. This is only a fraction of the stuff I've done, and I have at least twice as much still waiting to be edited (one day... maybe...), but I chose these images as I feel they show my progression from shitposer to average a little better than the usual 'best of' formula. Some are failed experiments, some were actually 'good' enough that even I felt pretty chuffed with myself, but all of these were, in some way, important to my learning or indicative of my methods at various times.
Brace for a shitstorm of gigantic images. You may not get a lot of these poses; a consequential proportion of them are based off of or inspired by events that took place in the HL2Land RP server during late 2007 and also the server that shall not be named, late 2007 to late 2008. Bear with me.

This is one of my oldest pictures. It was for an abortive comic that never saw a release (or at least, not that I can remember) and is pretty much irrelevant now, but I still have it. Back then my 'editing' process was basically to dodge and burn the living fuck out of everything, and then attack hair or grass with the smudge tool at random intervals (I only stopped using this method upon finally getting a tablet about a year and a half ago). While it's pretty messy, there's just something about this image that I like even now.

This followed not long after. Like the first, the character was skinned by me; in this case a friend served as the model for this guy's face (and considering it was a simple reskin with no mesh changes, it worked out remarkably well, bearing nearly perfect resemblance to the real person). I can't actually remember what the purpose of this was, but I do recall it being a made-up paratrooper unit from my old Wargames 2.0 country. Mismatched equipment was a result of using whatever works well, and you'll see these guys a few more times in later pictures. You may also see other weird made-up uniformed groups starting to appear. This was a pretty tumultous time for all the various shit I came up with, as it started to look less like a mess of random thoughts and more like a cohesive universe forming.

First really serious attempt at turning citizens into uniformed personnel using only PS. This was a dead end, since I went on to create a proper skin only a few weeks later.

A really, REALLY early WWII pose. I actually think this was one of my first serious poses full stop. I still have a bit of a soft spot for it, because despite the bad posing, flat hands and lack of proper editing, just the way these guys are standing seems to convey their feelings (or at least as much as bad posing can).

Hello there, first and last major stitch. It's pretty unsightly now, but the guy running out from cover on the far right was probably my first no-shit tolerable gunpose.

I love the fuck out of this picture. I refined two things here: Combine tracers, and projected shadows. I have not used either since and I hate myself for it every time I look at this. Considering this is now at least two years old, it's definitely time I found an excuse to do it again.

Discovering SDoF... "What does this butto- HOLY FUCK"

and

Having wanted an FJ skin for ages, someone finally released one and I got straight to work. However, I had to manually edit the helmets and smocks (being a simple reskin). Here I befriended the healing brush, and also really started to realise how useful isolation could be. The second picture also introduced me to only blurring specific parts that are moving, like the rifle, arms and the casings but not the rest of the body. I also started to really play around with smoke from ejected casings.

Abortive attempt at an AR2 muzzle flash, but for some inexplicable reason, I don't hate this picture entirely.

Similarly abortive attempt at rimlighting. I left it a lone for a long time following this trainwreck.

Drawing embroidered stitches in, individually, by hand. This was before my tablet, too. Unsurprisingly, this idea started and ended with this image.

Obligatory Omaha picture from a period in FP history where you were not a man until you made one. Grey Saints was in the works and all of us were drooling over it, producing our own attempts at that magical first landing scene until it finally came out. Yes, I did fuck up one of the lines. I know. I never got around to fixing it. "Sliding" should be "slowly".

Tried a new technique for making long grass out of flat ground textures that I never used again (simply used a 100px spatter brush to smudge instead of the 1px). I'd had helmet covers more or less down for the longest time, but what was really important here were the rolled sleeves and the proper M40 collar. This was a huge milestone for me at the time, and I was so chuffed with the guy in the foreground that I isolated him and used him for various promotional pictures for the Red Orchestra realism unit I was in at the time. As you can see, I was still prone to maniacal bouts of dodge/burn.

Nothing particularly special about this outside it being my one and only Insurgency pose ever to see completion. At the time my knowledge of the structuring of the US military was zero, so it wasn't until some time later I realised what a tit I had been trying to make a Marine into an Army Ranger. I apologise profusely to any actual Marines or Rangers and invite you to make a similarly stupid assumption as to my own service. :saddowns:

Now pretty satisfied with editing collars, I attempted ranks as seen here. I also way overdid the recolour, and ended up with straight green instead of the darker tone of Feldgrau I was going for. Note fucked blur and my failure to consider the proper grasp of a Stielhandgranate.

A joint effort between Linkage and I. He posed, we both edited. I can't remember what became of his edit, but this was mine. It probably took me longer to remove all the fucking aliasing than to actually add in the air raid and change the entire image from day to night.

While I fucked up the grenade pose AGAIN, this remains probably my best WWII picture. The shading was there but not hilariously overdone like in most of my other stuff, and in some ways it was slowly starting to approach some of the things I had been shooting for (I think one of my inspirations for this was an ancient picture of Uberslug's).

My god, nice ghillie edits, hair edits, everything edits. I don't see one picture I hate.
Oh lawd, the hair edits are amazing!
I remember most of the pictures. I really love the fine hand drawn editing parts. :D
compilation
only 14 pictures with the girl with the Bieutiful Hair ?!
"Only" :psyduck:
I have a shitload more I haven't edited yet
How come none of the threads are updating, urs still says 0 replies and 1 view, and none have been bumped or anything, yours is on top D:
Pictures not loading? :psyduck:
Holy shit, your hair edits are beyond sexy
Pictures not loading? :psyduck:
there's a lot of them, your internet is probably suffering an aneurysm
either that or my ftp hates you for some reason
did you fall in love with that female model or something
no, it was a sequence of poses to go with something i was writing at the time. i haven't got around to the various other characters yet.
it took me nearly 2 years just to unfuck the storyline for one after what the server that shall not be named did to them, so i was basically retconning like mad
Definite progression of skill and comfort with the medium, yielding impressive results. I think I liked the little histories attached to each image the most though.
Also I simultaneously love and hate the neo-luftwaffe dress uniforms.
Yeah those got retconned and no longer exist, I can't believe it took me so long to stop and wonder 'where the fuck would HL2-universe rebels get this shit'
http://www.project-new-hope.com/upload/images/facepunch_gallery/Biohazard.jpg
Where did you get that gun?
A lot of those make me wanna go back into WWII posing. Nostalgic, I think they were damn fine. Unique style that made them stick out from all the rest.
What map did you use for the poses with the Russian writing on the walls and the girl in the blue Russian jumpsuit?
Holy shit, a beautiful compilation man!

I laughed at that.
i too find sdof hilarious
I will say, HOLY SHIT. they're bangin, the hair edits are nicely done.

STALKER
What map did you use for the poses with the Russian writing on the walls and the girl in the blue Russian jumpsuit?
Precinct 13, just a stripped-down RP version of the map where you escape the CP raid and get rescued by Alyx. That was the room at the top of the broken staircase.
[img_thumb]http://www.project-new-hope.com/upload/images/facepunch_gallery/Infrastructure%2001.jpg[/img_thumb]
FUCK I can't believe I missed all this shit when I was gone!
But I guess that's what compilation threads are for :shobon:
I remember all of these, good times.
If I could find any of my stuff I'd make a thread just like this.
Good job on these, some real classics.
Where did you get that gun?
you can find it on gmod.org search for sa-80
