Yeah, that makes sense. Let's pick up and use random firearms we were never trained to use, that'll end well.

Some russian soldiers didn't even get guns at that time, they were handed a couple clips and assigned to a guy with a rifle. They either picked up that guy's rifle when he died, or an enemy troops rifle.
It's not hard to figure out how to fire a gun, basic knowledge of weaponry (which they would have) would allow them to know how to at least fire the damn thing.
It makes complete sense. :colbert:

Yes, but without proper training one may not know how to properly care for or even reload a gun. Plus there's the simple problem of ammo, which you could only acquire from dead enemies if it's ammo that isn't used by your country.

Pretty simple to figure out re-loading, but I figure if you're hoisting guns off of bodies in a battlefield, taking care of it isn't really a primary thought. They'd probably drop it once they ran out of ammo and pick up another one or something along those lines. Though I see what you mean, they're not exactly in battle.

This is a complete myth, just so you know. It never happened during WWII.
There is a chance it may have briefly during WWI due to logistical clusterfucks, but absolutely not during WWII.

From what I know Russia was mass producing tanks and guns as fast as it could.
They were, which is why there are still millions upon millions of 91/30s in the world. At absolute worst there may have been the occasional localised shortage when a supply line was cut, but I doubt it since most troops would've been issued weapons already. The 'one man gets a rifle, the other gets ammo' thing is an imagination of Hollywood to add some drama to movies. The Soviets also pioneered combined arms warfare and had it down to a fine art by war's end, so the portrayal of them sending in unarmed troops with the NKVD literally right behind them with a machine gun is preposterous.
