I've been really curious about what people might of come up with when it comes to speedy hovering vehicles. I've come up with a couple of concept chassis, but nothing that works like i'd like it to. I was hoping people could post their super speedy racing hovercrafts, curious if i could get any ideas, design and execution wise! If you guys have no idea what i'm talking about, heres a video of WipeOut HD:

Feel free to post pictures and vids of your contraptions, preferably if they're ridiculously quick, manage to stick to the surface their racing on, (that means if it's upside down or doin a loop da loop, it's still feet from the "ground", and perhaps even has crazy weapons attached, i wanna see it!
Fatal inertia for Gmod sounds fun.

Psh, making a track for this type of stuff would be tons of fun, muchless the ride itself xD

As for the hovering bit, you want to use a thruster height target system if you want it bouncy and awesome, also no speed limit would help for the target speeds of f-zero.
*nod* I think if i were to have a competition, limiting the speed might hurt the creativity of getting around the track xD Now this thruster height target system sounds like a good idea, but so far my rangers + thruster mock ups just, Hop, once they touch the ground. Admittedly, i'm good at sculpting and physics, but i could use some help with wire xD
I could try and make a map like that after I finish my current one. Should only take a couple days.
I have a base that hovers and turns and twists like those cars. Theres a thread somewhere about it. My model was shitty so if someone made a nice body it world work just like those

I think it'd be nice if we ended up getting a feel for the contraptions before we decided to make a track for them. Something with an unlimited top speed and "No such thing as Up" attitude might be very limited if it has to fit in a premade map.
I got side-tracked from making my hover car i may continue it if a track was to be created *hint hint nudge nudge*
No reason not to now, could it work upside down?
Since nobody seems to have tried this, i've gone ahead and started sculpting my own. I was going for something more out of wipEout with this. I'm still having troubles with the chassis, but if any Wire savvy people are interested, feel free to send me a message!

You might consider it a cheat, but try this old tool, it is truly awesome:

That's seriously tempting, but i'd needa figure it out for the sake of spawning it in servers
Too true. I wish Gmod had a "clientside only" mod function. EG for certain mods, like that one, you could still use it, but the mod itself would not be shown, . EG you make a hover-car, and people will see it hover and stick, but not the device. Unfortunately that's not possible due to the fact that some mods would simply not work, and also it could be used to make server crashing stuff, plus it would be just plain hard to implement.
anyway sorry for de-railing the thread. Ill go make a contraption with vid using the tool.

It's okay, this thread is anything AntiGrav racer oriented, i'm just surprised, 3 days after posting, and nobody's seem to have made such a thing.
Karbine made such a thing.
I believe Cloud Strife made an e2 that kind of functioned like this. It was for pod racers though.

Perhaps you could just use the engine portion of the code? I dunno.
Also, a video of it:

Might wanna ask him for permission to use it.
Thanks! This really helps alot!
Edit: Do you guys think this windshield looks allright? I might redo the entire nose to give it a much wider look, i dunno yet

And heres what i have so far with the prototype chassis, utilizes fins to steer, a thruster for forward, and the E2 to hovor, but that E2 doesn't work too well sideways n upside down, ima have to play with it.

Yeah we do :smug:
...Yeaaah... we do.....
anyway. Nice thing. I might join in with something hovering.
a man by the name of Rybec has helped me out alot with some decent expression code for this kinda business. This doesn't keep anybody attached to the track or ground, but rather just repulses you away from it. After some deliberation, i figured this would be more interesting, cause you have to worry about your speed and aerodynamics keeping you on the track rather than this E2's grip :P Enjoy, it guys.

Just a little wall sticker of mine. You can modify the e2s to change height and speed. No reason for pix, it's just a phx square.
I guess people have forgotten how to use wire rangers to determine ground clearance and to use it apply the right amount of thrust to keep a chassis hovering at just the right spot. I love old wire solutions.
A simple equations such as (Height - Ranger) + {Multiplier[Delta(Height - Ranger)]} can be made is simple wire in just minutes. Put a ranger and a Thruster at the four corners of your hovercraft and BOOM! You'll have a hovering chassis that adapts to what's under it.

xD By the time a learned what a wire Delta was, E2 came out. I don't think it helped that i migrated to E2 before i got into intermediate wire.

Different strokes for different folks. Both methods do the same thing.

Made a while ago. Greatest feature is the ranger that always tries to point down.
Well it looks like we've got 3 or 4 different ways to hovor your contraption, so lets see some racing!
Holy shit I remember the original of this game.
I used to love playing that shit.

Dont use my second one. all it does is point up! it cant stick to tracks. Use my first one.

I'm warry of rapidshit. Can you post it on garrysmod.org and link it here?
Ugh, all right. Hate Gmod.org but ok. Edit when it's up.
