He's comparing the bullet to the bullet wound on the body in order to determine the caliber used by the criminal.

Uhh, why? That's the most odd way to do ballistics analysis you could possibly come up with. Does he have some super vision so that he can measure the size of the hole exactly by just looking at it? And did he just happen to carry an example of every bullet caliber ever made?

By comparing the diameters of the bullet and the bullet hole, he gets an idea of the caliber before they do
an in-depth analysis in a lab. And yes, he carries an assortement of bullet calibers with him, but only the
most common ones. The one he's holding is a .50AE.

Seems kinda pointless, as the bullet caliber won't really give him any information that he could use right at the crime scene, it would be simpler for him to just wait until the lab analysis.
Realism aside, how's the posing and the lighting?

Well... The dog is there to sniff up any traces of the killer, but I might aswell just say that the dog and the
bullet is there because they're related to police work, or that it was the only bullet model I had. The dog model isn't that big. My guess is that it's the camera angle that makes it look big. I will try to work on my
lighting, particulary making things a little brighter and not making out of place blue colored lights.

Dogs are only going to contaminate the crime scene.
Now when i see it,it looks like its gonna eat the body.

Hell, his cigarette isn't even lit either. Just don't think about it and look at it like a scene for a crime movie, and not a super-realistic crime scene.
