I must say while I love the image. Posing is good, people have personality and there's lots going on to keep the view looking for a while. I personally don't believe it fits Stalkers setting. No one in those games really was all up and having fun. Stalkers were mostly loners and just fighting to survive and make some profit. The Zone was not some place to have fun in and hang around in. It was a dangerous and depressing place to be. Hell sunny days were a sign of good fortune.
The only way I could think this photo be possible is if it's maybe a bunch of rookie stalkers just getting in. Not knowing what to expect. But then you show the Ecologist doctor who is usually found further in studying the zone. No point studying where emissions are weak and there's not much to be found.
But the final word goes to you. For all I know he's a new doctor going with the Stalkers till he reaches the inner parts of the zone. Likely by then there'll be much less of them and they won't be so cheery.
Such is life in the Zone....
