• Theoretical large-scale tank competition

We all hate tanks saturating this forum, but I thought about doing a huge contest about it. The contest would not factor looks of a tank, but only performance and team effort. I need help with suggestions on tests of tanks and the biggest issue, the prize. There's the basic idea of having a course with targets, fly through as fast as possible, shoot as many targets, fastest team wins. I'd supply kyle and i's tank chip, the V1KK, so everyone has a chance (as well as instructions). Since ACF tanks have a steep learning curve, every team should have at least 1 "senior" member who knows what the fuck is what. My ideas so far: -Tanks must be crewed, gunner + driver at the least, a commander can be useful too (for selecting targets, basically, commanding.) - 30 ton class. this is troublesome, because the contest needs to test every aspect of a tank, firepower, protection, and mobility. this is what stumps me. - obstacle and firing course that is timed (ie you drive to a firing position, stop, targets arise (static and moving) and you have X amount of time to destroy as many as possible. testing survivability is a big hump. I don't know if i should have a "survival" mode where several human controlled drones attack a tank and however many it survives count as points, or what. I need input for these things before I tackle such a huge contest. I need a good prize too to motivate people, but I'm poor. The best I can think of is a limit of 3 men to a team (any amount of teams) and each person in the team getting a prize of a $10 gift from steam. Let's do something fun guys, get this forum thriving again.
Cool idea
Yes. Oh hell yes.
Sounds fun. If I can be bothered to learn the ins and outs of tank building, I'd be more than happy to participate.
Thing about tanks is that people will see guys like you who make ACF tanks all the time and get scared off because you've got a stupidly good chance of rolling everyone. Also the one big reason why I steer clear of tanks is because I get 20x my tank fix whenever I check this subforum. Let's try thinking outside the box. Maybe airships or collaborative base defence or submarines or something? [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] Is ACF officially public yet, btw?
I would be up for trying this sometime.
Maybe airships or collaborative base defence or submarines or something?
An aircraft competition would be my wet dream. [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] Tanks are cool too, though
An aircraft competition would be my wet dream.
It'd be cool. But more people build tanks than airships, though airships can be cooler.
tanks are the easiest to govern and compete in. with planes, there's a million ways to propel them and no actual limits such as speed and weight. with tanks, mobility, firepower, and protection are all in a weight category. as for scaring off people who don't do tanks much, as i said, I'm supplying the E2 that handles all functions of the tank. the only thing else that is required is understanding of ACF and the tank building itself, which isn't hard. i can supply loads of documentation for building them, as there are already several threads on how to make them. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline]
It'd be cool. But more people build tanks than airships, though airships can be cooler.
as for using your own, to make everyone fair, it's best to use 1 chip for everyone. the chip has things like turret traverse limiting and the like. it's well optimized and everything required of a tank is handled in one chip. i don't want people with instant accelerating trajectory-calculating 600 mph blocks of metal flying about, I want some realism here.
Those sorts of airships have always puzzled me. How do they fly? They look like ordinary naval ships that ended up a few miles above where they're supposed to be. [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] Tank comp sounds good so far, though. Looking forward to participating and what have you.
Magic, propellers and explosive hydrogen.
Don't ask me why but the combination of those airships, tanks and submarines has given me a fucking incredible idea totally unrelated to airships and tanks. Prepare to see something cool in about 5 months when I gain enough motivation to make shit happen
I would enter but I'm going to be busy going to peoples grad parties and what not and the guy who usually crews my tank with me is on a week vacation
Im in Ill try and get a good team together
good. we could also think of this as RTC to be honest. teams reppin countries
hnnnggg I have no idea
Im in Ill try and get a good team together
I could be on your team :v:
Probably with my own little twist like I always do [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] MY auto meerrge
Alright, you got yourself a deal. I'll start on a tank immediately.
Can i ask a question... How exactly do you measure the weight of something in tonnes within garrysmod? I always see people talking about their contraptions being so many tonnes... HOW? [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] Also, here's a repository for ACF :) http://acf.googlecode.com/svn/branches/dev [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] You'll need the models too of course: http://acf.googlecode.com/svn/branches/models
ACF weight tool from fallen's build tools. it's on ggg.
Signing up for driver, since I'm totally noob with anything to do with tanks.
Hey would I have to contact you in game for your tank chip or are you going to post it on here?
ACF weight tool from fallen's build tools. it's on ggg.
Is it only available on the server?
Those sorts of airships have always puzzled me. How do they fly? They look like ordinary naval ships that ended up a few miles above where they're supposed to be.
Hydrogen, mass effect cores, magic. Something along those lines.
Is it only available on the server?
no, you can get it off TgiFallen's svn: http://tgifallen.googlecode.com/svn/trunk
Ive never built a tank before but I'd like to try...as soon as I fix my computer... Is the team size limited to three?
that's the tricky bit. i'm not made of money, so i have to limit team sizes. i suppose you could have extra help and not disclose the other members, but they wouldn't be rewarded with the prize
i can supply loads of documentation for building them, as there are already several threads on how to make them. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] Mind supplying a few links to the documentation?
