I think that in the first pic it's so dark that it looks like he's falling asleep while leaning on his sword. Second pic's colors I like (yellow & purple).

first pick was my intentions. it was supposed to be dark; exhausting; gloomy sad feel like the one in the dark souls II preview, "Longing."

imho what you should have done with the second picture was keep the lilac sky and have the sunlight casting from that direction as a similar light purple color, so it's sorta like a nice pleasant daybreak. the blue and orange contrast is just super nuts and forced imo

the first one looks way better cos the colors are much more subdued and consistent. it's better to have a color palette of similar shades that complement each other well and look natural than shoehorn in a bunch of contrasting colors.
