So I have officially not played Gmod for six months... - Garry's Mod

I must say, I really miss it. Ever since my computer crapped out on me, I haven't been able to play Gmod at all. And as the days have gone by, I've noticed something; I really do miss it. Everything about it was just awesome, being given the ability to build anything that you could think of, only to have it taken away in less than an instant. I miss the servers and the people on it... I remember when I first stepped into the world of Gmod, my first contraption was a ragdoll with balloons and thrusters all over it. I miss going on to GGG Toshkent (probably still banned though) and seeing awesome contraptions being constructed, kind of a "behind the scenes" look at what is going to soon be on the contraptions board. I miss almost compulsively saving contraptions for fear of being join crashed, or the server just being a total dick and crashing for no reason at all. And the people who would play on those servers; [b]Karbine[/b]; just generally awesome, excellent builder, and fun to be around when he's not in his "Gmod is serious business" mode. [b]Sestze[/b]; even though he raged and banned my ass from Toshkent, his contraptions were still fun, and his coding with E2 still remains unmatched. Also the arguments were fun at the time, sorry if I pissed ya off mate. [b]Kickasskyle[/b]; funny how I would confuse Kyle and Karbine sometimes, they seem alike in a lot of ways. Kyle's stuff does as his name suggests; kicks ass. [b]Satyria[/b]; always kicked my ass in ACF tank battles, and probably always will if I ever get to play Gmod again. [b]XXXmags[/b]; excellent insight on how to make Fin based flying contraptions, a shame I couldn't bee there when he made his duplicatable swashplate heli. [b]Gibbo[/b]; yeah, I was annoying, but you did (and still do) make some fucking awesome stuff, like your Metal Gear Rex (did you ever get it to walk right?) [b]SIMPLE/MacHaddock[/b]; it was fun to play with you while you were drunk, you were (and probably still are) more creative when drunk. I remember that mech with all the gears on it you tried to make, but ended up crashing and it all disappeared. And your planes and helis and shit... Good times. [b]Woodchuck34/Butler[/b]; generally fun to be around, never a dull moment, and a damn good builder, still diggin' the rape van man. [b]Tibbles[/b]; that falling blockhouse never got old for some reason. Good that you decided to make it into a full contraption, and good that I got to mess around in it before my PC crapped out. Sorry if I missed anyone, I enjoyed playing with everyone I encountered to some degree. I miss trolling RP servers and trying to get banned from as many as possible. Spacebuild was fun too, I remember trying to navigate through zero-g with no stabilization, only thrusters. Was the most frustrating fucking thing on the planet, and yet so satisfying when I finally got to that planet... Only to land in a pool of lava and burn to death. Survival was also fun, I played it for like a week straight, and then finally realized it always ended the same way; one Tribe will get crowbars and destroy your shelters and steal your food. I miss building with you guys, and I'm sorry for pissing any of you off, I will admit I was annoying as almighty fuck. God damn I had so much fun playing Gmod, even all the raging over failed contraptions was worth the overall outcome and satisfaction. Gmod was, and hopefully still will be, the best ten bucks I EVER spent. Nothing that cheap has ever provided me with days of solid fun. I hope one day I will be able to dust off my boots and jump back in to Gmod again, but for now, it seems like it won't be happening any time soon. So, I guess... Cya around guys, I'll still lurk the Contraptions board, but won't post anything for quite some time. I know this is probably not the right section for this, but there are certain people that I would like to read this, and only hang round in the Contraptions section.

What is keeping you from getting a new rig or fixing the old one? is it just money?

Yeah pretty much, and I have school to worry about and my job doesn't pay very much, so it'll be some time before I can play again. I'd rather not fix my old rig; it was just a shitty Compaq laptop that the motherboard just fucked itself over. I'd rather just get a new PC than deal with the laptop's dickery.

Yeah, if you have 400 bucks you could find a desktop that could play gmod no problem. It will most likely suck horribly at newer games but at least you can play gmod and surf the internet and DL stuff and watch videos and....wait, is the computer you used right now not good enough to run gmod? It really doesnt take much.

New motherboards are 100 - 250 bucks. If you have a screw driver and the cash, then just buy a new motherboard. It's not that hard.......I've had the same case for about 5 years now. I've purchased new hard drives, a better power unit, a new video card and even a better fan. My next big spend is a motherboard. 100 bucks isn't that hard to come by. In the past 6 months, if you saved 20 buck a month, you'd have your motherboard + shipping.

[/QUOTE] so true, gmod has a certain vibe to it, and it always manages to drag you back into it. Right from my first posted contraption on here, many people gave me good criticism, and from that i evolved into a decent builder. to be honest, what i think makes gmod so great is the community. It'd be extremely boring if it was just you sitting by yourself building something. It's so much more fun being with people, even from different countries, all bonding together. All my rude american outlooks on people have totally changed from gmod, and i have been lucky enough to become good friends with people from sweden, norway, poland, new zealand, austrailia, everywhere. Its great. haha this is getting really corny. But i totally understand how you feel, back when i had a shit computer, all i could play was gmod. Ever since i got a boss computer with dual 4890s, all ive been doing is playing stupid games that have good graphics that just piss me off (mw2) I'm in the process of getting back into gmod, and many of the friends that i have made over the past months have been nothing but encouraging me to do so. So if you do get a new pc sometime soon meeph, I'll gladly play with you.

I mis the good old days.. Was.. 2 years ago i think that i asked my brother to get my Gmod for steam, after 1 week asking he said the word i was waiting for: FINE you little shit. i was all :buddy: then after the installation i was 24/7 on the PC playing it, after 1 month i got all the needed mods so i started to play online. then another 2 months later i created my own server. .:Dr Evil Build:. daaaaamn.. Good times. Now i remade the server in .:Freddies_Rounhouse:. Contains all the mods of the old server! Wish i could relive that moment...

The new system isn't even the major problem, where will I start with Gmod again? I'll have to start from ground zero and work my way up again. I won't have any of my E2 resources that I had before; mouse aiming, karbine's helicopter flight chip, etc. Nor will I have my contraptions that I never finished. There was a particular awesome jet I was working on in Toshkent, fully mouse aimed, epic to fly and all that. All that is gone. I would have nothing if I start up again. What tiny bit of useful Wire I knew is now gone with the wind, I forgot it all, I didn't have much when I DID play gmod, I was a mediocre builder with little patience and little maturity... It's just going to be hard to get back into it.. Anyway, in terms of cash, I have roughly $300 laying around that I plan to save up for a new system.
