Question about Lua coding/scripting.

Sorry my stupid questions, but i need answer from somewhere so i started to ask what i want to know from FPS.

I want to know:
How do i can know what function/code actions does in game and how i can find functions/code actions?

Heres example taken from Visual Basic
Msgbox("How do i can know what every code/script does? This sends message box to your screen if you press Button1")

So i'm asking same of Lua scripting?
