One day I got bored and noticed there were no player controled lua tanks , only helicopters and the likes. So I decided to start making one , this is what I have so far. This is a "beta" of my tank entity , credits go to the person who made the tank from Dan's mega snpcs pack and the modeler. (And me for scripting the damned thing) This tank is a player controlled tank entity , not an advanced dupe or a contraption. You move the tank with W, A , S , D keys , and you steer the main canon with your mouse. Left click (or your primary fire key) shoots the canon. Credits go to the following: Averice - General help Slob187 - Helped me with a little angle issue Overv - Attempting to help me Me - Making the script work with players and the likes. To install this you must put it in the entities folder from a gamemode , or your lua/entities folder. And then once in game type "ent_create ent_tank" in console [/code] Alright , This is still a W.I.P , so don't bash it if you find a little error , I didn't really test this in multiplayer so if someone would that would be lovely , also , the error you see about keypress when you spawn the tank is because of the think function , If someone can tell me how to fix it i'd appreciate it. Looks pretty cool, how about a version with an empty main turret that you can weld stuff to?
What do you mean by empty main turret?
He means to remove the cannon (or shorten it) And remove the ability to fire the cannon, allowing people to put their own weaponry on the cannon barrel
Looks good, though i see a lot of errors/lag. A 2 man version would be good, perhaps 2 seperate ents.

Floating turret? No , it's just made that way, about the canon shortening I could replace the actual canon top with a box or something , but I don't see much point to doing that. And it already is two seperate entities , so making it a 2 man craft is easier than a 1 man craft. The errors are because of a think function , online they shouldn't bother anybody. And the lag is not because of the entity , it is 100% caused by my way too old computer.( was barely able to make the video without it going at 5 fps , I need a new computer ;P) EDIT: I think i know what you mean , for some reason the actual tank body goes invisible for the driver when he uses the tank , the other players see it as a full tank. Maybe something to do with calcview?

Hmm, how about you silently kill the player and set the tank as a spectate target? More efficient than calc view and parenting.
Spectate is even more buggy than calcview , but thanks for the idea , I just tried looking at the tank through a camera and the tank is complete , and the camera is basically a moveable calcview , so if anybody know why the lower part of the tank is invisible i'd appreciate it if you told me ;P

What? Are you asking if it's for a sent or what is the sent...
What is the sent. I mean it is not normal that it doesnt show so give us more info so we can help you!
I have no idea what you mean by saying what is the sent.. The sent is an entity that is a tank , what else can I say? I didn't do anything that should hide the model from the client , so I don't know why it does that.
I actually meant it disappears when you are using it(at least from the view). SO post ,if you want that we help you, what you did to make the player spectate the Tank? Perhaps you spawn inside or what?
Yes , you spawn inside , but with no calcview you see both the turret and the body just fine. I'll post the calcview script tomorrow after school.

This looks promising, soon I can have huge wars with this and the Helicopter SENT without my toaster for server lagging the hell of all props required to build stuff like this. Keep up the good work!
I was also thinking that , eventually someone might make a military wars gamemode or something similar.
Could someone post some pics of the vehicle? I cant see Youtube where I'm now :( Nevertheless this sounds nice, is something I'm looking forward to... a drivable tank! EDIT: Nevermind... I got to my home and watched the video... It looks pretty promising but you can easily tell is still a WIP.
Alright , I've fixed every single issue that was shown in that video except the errors popping up when the tank has no driver , so please test it and enjoy. This is not an addon , so you have to put the models into the model folder etc , you need a minimum in gmod understanding to actually use this , it's still a beta so it's not the final release. (the tank fully works tho , kinda)
If you would like, I can make this into an addon, put it in the entities tab, AND make a spawn icon \:v:/ I've already done all this, and I'll test it tomorrow. I won't upload it or anything unless you ask :) Changes I've made: Addon format Epic spawn-icon. Fixed a folder error :v: That should be it!
Is it possible to have something like a view from inside style? Like this: [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K80TWDavJhY[/media] And also, maybe add a coaxial machinegun(turret beside the main cannon) And maybe add more people to a tank, like in arma 2, have a commander, a gunner, a driver.
I just tested the tank, and its quite awesome. Its easy to drive and easy to aim, unluckily you can aim up :x One of the problems i had was the view... The tank view was nuts. (It was going anywhere, I could barely see the tank), the other was probably the player model been outside the tank when using it. (The player its driving the tank, but from outside, the model doesn't not disappear or go inside the tank itself) I guess the tank needs just a couple of more fixes and details. Nice work! BTW i really like the idea of making a two men car. One controlling the machingun, and the other the tank and primary fire. (Or one driving and the other would be weaponry) EDIT: I managed to fix the view just by putting Over shoulder view, it goes smooth with that addon hehe. But still the Player outside the tank is a problem. EDIT 2: Another issue, When i get out of the tank, all my weapons disappear :x
[b]Santz[/b] , the weapons dissapearing is something i forgot to fix up a bit :X , it's because you get parented inside the entity , so if you noclip you will end up moving out of the tank lol. I have no idea what's wrong with the view , are you playing it in singleplayer or multiplayer or what? For me the view works perfectly. Also , the upwards aiming is because of the model , if i'd make it aim up the cannon would end up being inside the tank , if there was a 2 piece canon , one for the tower and one for the tip , that would be great. :\ I meant the possiblity of adding a new view, like how the sniper scope. I didn't meant doing it literally.
