How exactly would one go about doing this? From what I understand, isn't it just rendering a map or something? (I mean like the backgrounds when you startup HL2)

It could be any map but you're not guaranteed to see anything interesting if the map isn't meant for it.

If you want an interesting background map, you should try this one:

The map dl link is in the description. The file will have to be renamed after downloading to backgroud01 as it is not by default. Assuming you want to this for Gmod, you can now fake believe you have and are just about to play Episode Three as of this year!
By the way, the only reason why you other guys reading this see it actually say Episode Three in my video was menu work, not mapping work.
