Yesterday I was playing Garry's Mod, and of course rotation didn't work. I saw that it was a bug in the whole game and would probably be updated. It has. This gave me an idea though. What if there were a gun, like the physics gun, that aligns whatever it's being used on to a set of axis. Therefore it can not rotate, unless you hit E, in which case, it rotates in only 45º increments. This would not be a replacement, but an added feature. This would make building things easier as everything can be aligned easier.
EDIT: I was told to post this here. It's an idea, I have no idea how to script, I'm just suggesting it.
Eh this already exists, within the physics gun actually, and it rotates in 45º increments.
you still failed wrong section.
Now you found lua you need to find lua requests.

How? And does it align to a set of axis?

God! This is like calling tech support! I'll put this in the right section if what Big Bang is saying doesn't totally apply. Otherwise there's no point in suggesting a feature that already exists.
EDIT: Found out how on the Wiki, but it still doesn't snap.

Wow,do you really think you are the first one to make the mistake to post here instead of the request section?
Also, the physgun build mode addon is in this pack.

Wow, that does what I want and more! Sweet! (This should be after the post below...)
Wait, why is in my last post now? WTF is going on? Anyway, you get the point though.
Uhm... just hold shift when you're pressing E with the physics gun.
