Some of you know me, some of you don't. I'm the dude who was working on Exsto, which is notorious for looking good, but actually is a sucking piece of shit; which I take pride in. I've been busy for quite some time, but I'm going to try to get back into the grove and start fixing up Exsto during the summer. So. If you could just post/rant/complain/appreciate here about Exsto, that'd be awesome. I'd like to know what exactly went wrong with how things were done, so I can fix them the next time around. Heres whats come out of this thread, Took suggestions on the UI design. Laid a base structure out for Revanne to make beautiful.
Its not evolve... [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] Wtf wrong account
you gave it a really weird name
Its not evolve... [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] Wtf wrong account
Valid point; Evolve is an excellent administration system. Its hard to top Overv's dedication he put into it. [editline]15th May 2011[/editline]
you gave it a really weird name
That I did. Any suggestions for a new name?

I remember the chat box not showing disconnect messages, don't know if it was fixed. But from what I've seen it's really nice.
Its big and bulky, specifically the menu screen. People like slick streamlined very user friendly yet customizable menus.
I can't type korean with that. THAT IS REALLY STUPID THING EVER.
I can't type korean with that. THAT IS REALLY STUPID THING EVER.
there is only 1 korean gmod user and its you, so 99% > 1% of the population
PrefanBadassAdmin
I don't think that would fly with the community, but thanks for the suggestion. It looked very nice.. but a little too complicated.

Thanks for the input both of you [editline]15th May 2011[/editline]
It looked very nice.. but a little too complicated.
And to the man who broke my automerge, that is written down in the things to do. Menu redesigns will happen. Thanks!
It looks pretty good I guess but that's the problem because it goes as far as that. Nothing really stands out and other Admin mods seem easier to use or I am already using another one. There doesn't seem to be a reason to use Exsto over another Admin mod. Maybe try out all the other admin mods and try to figure out what they are doing right and try to do it better. I like the direction which you took with the backend but dislike your focus on chat commands. I still use Assmod as it's the quickest thing for me to ban, kick or do something else. One of the little things that really stuck out to me is that you provide a zip as you don't expect everyone to use the svn.(It seems that it doesn't work anymore though) I don't know, I tried to give a little criticism but I have never actually used it. I'm thinking most of the issue is that early on it just sorta got a bad rep or that the interface isn't as easy to use as other admin mods. I would look to making sure that pretty much every action possible should be able to be done quickly. Also you may possibly want to look into making the data saving methods customizable and modular, it would be nice if I could write my own data saving plugin and just throw it in and make it work instead of having to rewrite the mysqloo stuff to tmysql if I were to use it.
there is only 1 korean gmod user and its you, so 99% > 1% of the population
Oh really? I've seen over 40 server from korea. and whatever, chatbox must supports all of languages.
I'd love to see some better navigation for the menu. I hate clicking the arrows and cycling, raging because I keep skipping it. That's the only flaw I have, other than that, I pretty much love Exsto.
Isn't existo the one with the annoying banner that notifies you that you are, in fact playing on an existo server? Or was that assmod?
That I did. Any suggestions for a new name?
Some suggestions for a new name other than borrowing one from a wal-mart clothing line:

CoreAdmin
FanAdmin
OrangeAdmin
Consularis (in keeping with your apparent affinity for Latin)

Isn't existo the one with the annoying banner that notifies you that you are, in fact playing on an existo server? Or was that assmod?
it's assmod.
The chat replacement sucks. I always press escape to cancel my typings. With exsto I open the main menu instead. Not like you can do much about it in Lua, but it's still annoying.
I think the "Cloud Plugins" idea was pretty good. That would be a nice feature if it gets fully implemented.
I think it should be more about easily being able to administrate rather than fading around and looking flashy

Its been copied to my list of things to take into account, thanks :) [editline]16th May 2011[/editline]
I'd love to see some better navigation for the menu. A better navigation menu will surely make it in the next time I work on Exsto. That won't happen again the next time around, thanks! First you could make it work for Listen Clients because if somone just wanna try Exsto in as Listen Client it doesnt work. Also ive got a Name "Intelligent Administrating System" in Short "IAS". A good Idea would be too make an Option to Customize Exsto like Disable Mysql, Disable Chatbox and an possibility to Add plugins Easily like youve got in Evolve. Oh and if it isnt too much some extra Features that no Administrating System has got like Background Music. Greetings, Dark Rising
I'd say it's pretty customizable..
You had me at Exsto.
I would like to see some more design on the storage front, perhaps the ability to specify separate storage methods for different types of data. So for example having users, user groups and bans stored on MySQL while having variables and such stored in the local SQLite database.
On the subject of the chatbox. I would probably stay away from shipping one with an admin mod because even though you could disable it in Exsto for gamemodes or servers which have their own chatboxes already; it would feel like I'm missing out on some of the features of the mod if I had to disable it since it doesn't work with a different custom chatbox. Maybe go for some sort of notification panel or just print messages into the chatbox, you could even make it so that the user decides how they want to receive their notifications. You kind of pushed for a more advanced and feature heavy admin mod, why not add lots of customization for the interface since that is the part of the admin mod that everyone uses?

Idea written down and it will happen, thanks :) [editline]17th May 2011[/editline]
On the subject of the chatbox. The chat box will not be shipped as a plugin in the future, but will be optional for those who still find fancy in it. As for notification methods, me and Revanne will look around for possible ways of performing that safely without compromising other addons in progress.
Just updated the OP with a compiled idea from Revanne's original designs, as well as many other suggestions you all made.
Too green, maybe consider adding more skins? like a red and blue one?
