How exactly does the flack shell prop spawn the clientside gibs when it's destroyed (in fact, how do any of the destructible props)? Is a lua script responsible for it or is it something that's built-into the model?

I feel stupid for asking this, but how? Is there a script in the model file somewhere that says "if your dead, spawn props" or something?
