Pretty much anything I've ever tried to do for Garrysmod has been along the lines of an SNPC, because... well, I like fighting awesome shit in a sandbox setting, and if you need something done, if you can, you've got to do it yourself.
Problem is, while I'm perfectly competent enough to get my models into GMod as ragdolls and preview my animations in the model viewer, my job after that is essentially over, and I need to wait while I hand the rest of the job over to someone competent in coding, since throwing a QC file together (sloppily) pretty much summarizes how far I can go in coding stuff, aside from making VMT's.
Basically, what I'd like is a way to experience a VERY rough version of the SNPC I want in the game. If all it amounts to is allowing me to scroll through its animations while it stands in place where I spawn it, I'm cool with that. Or even better, just a quick template that I can plug my stuff into to see what the SNPC looks and feels like in the game, able to move and chase stuff and maybe use a simple attack animation when it gets close to something. When I animated the TRex SNPC, I just remember my disappointment in seeing how slow it moved, even compared to the other npcs. I guess it's not fair to ask ANY manner of npc to keep up with the player, whose speed is pretty much double what it was in Half Life 2, and can go even faster with a simple click of the noclip button.
But still, I feel like I owe it to the coders who receive my stuff to make sure this shit flies in the game as more than a mere ragdoll before I make it their problem. If I can get a feel for how a model acts and moves as an SNPC ingame, and it's unsatisfactory, I can fix it up and make sure it works as intended before the coder is even involved.
So, to sum up, is their a tool, template or tutorial that can help me see the model function ingame without a rigorous working knowledge of Lua code?
