• Setting up a TTT server - can I get a quick tip?

Hello everyone! My friend is paying for a TTT server, and the guy that currently takes care of the server coding is about to quit. Since I have a small but decent knowledge of Python and Java (although it's been a long time that I don't have contact with them), I thought I might give a try on lua. But just to be sure, this coder guy didn't seen to do much besides going to the workshop and putting the stuff he finds there in the server. If so, is it really about coyping and pasting things to the server? Can you guys give me a quick guide on doing this type of thing or recommend me a link? Thanks in advance!
Unless you want to be unique then it's not about using everything on workshop. There are lots of servers who use the Copy + pasting method and they're all pretty much the same. If you want to try lua there are plenty of resources: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1337945 http://learnxinyminutes.com/docs/lua/
I understand that, I'm just trying to set an emergency plan. Just put together some things from the workshop, and with time, as I learn more about lua, things will improve. So, again, could you point me to the right direction for the copy + paste method? A simple guide would do, really.
You're off to a good start, atleast you know what he was doing wasn't scripting. Alot of server owners get tricked into paying people to subscribe to addons, it's sad really. The wiki is a *okay* place to start your first copy paste project (gotta start somewhere) so here is the link: http://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Category:Lua_Tutorials and the older wiki with more content: http://maurits.tv/data/garrysmod/wiki/wiki.garrysmod.com/index7a06.html Who knows, maybe you'll learn something.
I think I know at least the basics on lua programming by now... I mean, I can understand what the code says and even program a thing or two myself, but I'm still a dummy to actually make things work. Since my friend is paying for a host, I will have a remote access to the host files, I suppose. Do you think following a tutorial like the one seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQEZ7uMS8fM would actually help me out? Or is it an entirely different thing since the host is not my own computer? What are the main differences? Thanks in advance.
