Hey Facepunch!
I was wondering, how do you make darkrp servers work?
I tried itself, but i dont get it how to make:
Server where is fun to play, short download time good balance and awesome community?
It just seems like you have to spend so much time balancing prices and content like printers output, weapons prices and all that stuff. Any good tips for start? I know that you will not tell me all the secrets, but how i would get started so i could make my server public? Is there any good maps for like 32 players? How much cpu and ram i would need to run 32 players?
Thank you!
This is a forum for development and help regarding that. Take your question somewhere else.
Theres a tip that not so many peoples don't know about, but I'll tell you: don't.

Where i should move this then? The question is about developing a server.

Dont what? Make balanced?
There is a lot of DarkRP servers already and only some are actually custom and not filled with prepaid scripts. I would recommend make something custom and unique because your server will not stand out then. You can make a job at scriptfodder and someone may help you make some custom scripts.
If i am right, i have to pay for the job. And how much this could cost?

Depends on the stuff you're asking for.
If you, and so many people on the GMod community don't even know how to start a server, what makes you and them think you'll be good at maintaining it? If you have zero knowledge, just don't start a server in the first place.

Well, ive had sandbox server but hackers were hacking somehow. If you cant drive a car, you will not start teaching? When you were a baby, you tried to walk as everyone. Why others shouldnt try? Then you can improve and learn on mistakes.
Well, i will then start by making restriction script and inventory system with xp...

Heck, when you don't know how to drive a car you go to a teacher and drive carefully with him. Taking that analogy here, it means you need to maybe be an admin and see how others do it while you don't do much. You can't really just start a server because it simple won't succeed. Try and code a gamemode or unique content for your gamemode, read about it and expand your knowledge. And then you can try. Your problem after all. Most server companies make their money because people like you.

I have seen how admins on darkrp and sandbox handles the things. Maybe my server will succeed someday, but it doesnt mean that i have to be some professional to write in lua. I learn by making something and i will learn like that, as i dont have to make server in week. I dont see any logic to code gamemode as it wouldnt be used in any way than training with some problems with testing if friends are busy.

You don't test a gamemode like that.
To answer a few questions asked here.
Starfox is saying don't run a darkrp gamemode, more due to the fact that he likes strict / actual RP.
Having a coder create a gamemode can run from 100-500$ dependent on how complicated the gamemmode is, I am paying out about 400 for mine.
All in all a GOOD darkrp (Ugh I can't believe I said that) needs a dedicated staff that isn't childish, custom models, custom jobs, a decent amount of extra weapons in it, a good admin system, a website + forums, a custom loading screen, not alot of garbage addons, a nice custom hud, pointshops seem to be popular, darkrp xp (Levels) also seem to be popular, Vehicles and a car dealer NPC and of course a good map (One that has good roads and a decent size for vehicles.
Many of the items I stated may need a SQL database and your server will need to run the mysqloo module. (This is still optional, only needed if you run specific things)
The only darkrp server I have created, doesn't have any regular darkrp jobs in it, and is completely reworked from the ground up.... Many positive reviews but ultimately did not seem to catch into the crowd of Gmod... So I simply don't waste my resources and keep it offline.
As you will see, a large amount of persons on Facepunch dislike DarkRP as it has been a free, widely used and highly discredited gamemode for serious RP, or RP at all... To me DarkRP should of been named something else like DarkDM or DarkScript as the majority of DarkRP servers use very little RP in them if at all any.

What are we running, slave labor?
Lol nook.
But srsly why make yet another dark rp server for gmod. There are thousands of darkRP servers out there, there is no chance of getting it somewhat half decent and half full. The darkrp server list is way too saturated.
Just find a community. Apply for staff.

Hmm, i dont think that i am the only one who makes server. There is many servers in many gamemodes, but if there were 500 that would be enough i think. But cant i make my server and then for others too, but starting with darkrp? The question is not being admin, i want to have fun, nice community and good players.
I was going to post an argument to your post, but then I had to read it again, and again... and again.
I still have absolutely no idea what your post is trying to say.

He's basically being too optimistic, there's already hundreds of darkrp servers with near enough the same content and trying to jump on that bandwagon is going to get you almost 0 players. You should look into getting a custom server with original and new content or even a custom game mode?
Edit:
I don't suggest wasting your money on a 32 player slot server neither get 15-20 then if you do grow a community then upgrade. I don't know if it's just me but I'd rather join a server with 5/20 players than 5/32 players?
I have a DarkRP server for these reasons:
1. Its fun to code for
2. Its fun to fuck around with
3. Who doesn't love to bully 12 year olds over the internet?
