• New server browser punishes new gamemodes

Hi Guys This post might be a bit late since the "new" browser isn't so new anymore... so I made a mod called ObjHunt, I made it as a replacement to the very popular mod PropHunt Unfortunately ObjHunt after 2 years of being released still only has 5 servers up, and is extremely low on the new server broswer. I've talked to a ton of server owners and they say they really like ObjHunt and it's way better than prophunt in every way but they will not switch to it because it is not under the PropHunt tab in the server browser... The only reason they want it under that tab is because it's the first thing you see when you open up the new server browser. So very popular games get more popular because most people will just open the new server browser and play whatever is near the top, and less popular games have a really hard time gaining traction. In the old server browser I remember the way I would sort things is first by players and see what people are playing, then I would sort by gamemodes and try to find interesting ones. I still look for interesting gamemodes with the new server browser but 80% of the time no one is playing. Thoughts? anyone else feel this way?
your about 2 years too late on this one. The server browser is partially to blame but the real problem is the modern gmod playerbase. Just think, if there wasn't any demand for kiddyrp and trouble in tantrum town they wouldn't get any players would they?
This has been a known problem since not too long after GM13 arrived - the playerbase is a factor, yeah, but the new server browser burying new, obscure or single-server gamemodes is a pretty major thing. Small gamemodes or empty servers just disappear. Is Garry still threatening to fire anybody who changes the new server browser, or is it just an issue of not having a satisfactory replacement?
I wrote this a couple weeks ago about the same subject - Well in my personal experience I've found this to be untrue if you can formulate an intriguing concept that players will love. Of course people won't usually join a gamemode called "kill em" or "ocrp", but if you make a great gamemode with a name that is catchy you'll be sure to get the bored server-browsing population. You can think of it as a snowball effect, the more people you get the more you people you get. (kappa)

Objhunt is better in every way compared to prop hunt, but it's not popular. why's that?
maybe you just didnt interduce it correctly. from what i noticed twitch also have alot of effect, if a streamer with around 10 to 30 viewers will play it, people will want to join and play with him. once that is rolling people that just browsing for servers will see the server and join. ofc you need the server to have some way of keeping those players by way of progression, some thing small will do like point shop.

idk from the title of the video its prop hunt so i guess alot mistake it for normal prop hunt. you do know the player base has turned into this annoying 12 year old boys....
Many people are bitching about 12 year old kids 'round here, saying they took over the game and the entire playerbase is made up on them. But yet nobody is around to say the community became full of 15 year old ex-players with authority-complex. I mean, Facepunch is one of the biggest online communities out there, at least some of you should gather and play around on good garry's mod servers, right? How about someone creating a website with community featured servers, decent, quality ones? Instead of the default serverlist, using that website (perhaps with a community rating/ranking) would give a chance to new gamemodes or servers, given the community actually wants to try them out. Garry's mod just needs it's little push again, but no developers seem to have what it takes. Also, DarkRP is just fine. Of course, simple rules attract simple people; but it's successful for a reason, ie. since it's so flexible and can be modified in almost any way, it can be customized to almost anything. That being said, people have the opportunities (on any DarkRP server) to do kind-of whatever they want - play as detective (like you can on TTT), or build things (like on sandbox) etc. etc.. Of course, all these are rather limited to have the servers functional, but in the end, no other gamemode provides the number of features and opportunities which DarkRP does, I believe. :pudge: So please quit bitching about it. Find some quality server and let others know about it in the meanwhile. But of course, many just don't give a damn about sharing good servers, let alone create some.

But Newbrict you should have started your own server based on ObjHunt and showed to people it's capabilities, you cannot always rely on other people to promote your product.
Just name it "Prop Hunt 2" and start raking in the monE
This is pretty much universally agreed upon but it's really hard to come up with an alternative, especially when there's a large portion of trash users who will try to abuse any new method to get their DarkRP edits higher up in view

or the ability to search by server name *cough* *cough*

Instead of there being multiple categories, every server is thrown into one list which feels messy to me Whenever I've used TF2's legacy browser, I always search for the most players and if a lot of people share the same mindset as me, then it wouldn't help lesser known servers get discovered

The real advantage is you can choose to categorize by server name, gamemode, ping, players or map vs the garry browser where your forced to categorize by gamemode and the shitty server ranking algorithm points you straight to servers with the highest playercount running maps and gamemodes you already have installed

You're right. We need to add other filtering options, advanced server tags (may be even a return of "sv_tags"), change default server's grouping (maybe make them ungrouped and let the player choose what gamemode he need, what tags he want, etc.?) and other improvements to the current serverbrowser - and we're done!
Murder took off just nicely with new server list.
Yep, because Youtubers played it

If I looked at the title of that video I would automatically assume it's normal old Prop Hunt, if you want to make a new gamemode don't name it on the orginal...
