Welcome everyone to the thread! I'm planning on hosting the Garry's Mod Gamemode Competition for 2016.
Considering the last two competitions flopped, I've been worried that the third one may fail and nobody would even bother with another competition after that. This would be bad seeing that the competitions serve as a way to bring everyone together in order to create amazing things. These competitions also serve to show new people what can be accomplished when you're experienced at what you do, and may inspire new developers.

Prize Pool: $2,023.00
Event Starting Date: November 25th 2016
Event Ending Date: January 3rd 2017
Event Theme: Things are not always as they appear.
Event Website: http://www.gmodgc.com/
Some of the rules that are going to exist are...
► No using already existing gamemodes as bases or submissions. With the exception of Sandbox, these involve such things as DarkRP, TTT, etc.
► Utility/Mix-in libraries are allowed, but must be run by the judges before hand.
► One submission per participant, so for example, I can only submit one gamemode. Quality over quantity.
► Submissions must be publicly released/open source. We are doing this to give to the community, not release another paid gamemode.
► Teams are allowed, but only 3 participants per team.
► Assets such as models/materials will not be judged. If you want to include them, that's great, but they will not affect your score.
► Donators who donate over $100.00 cannot participate as well due to conflict of interest.
I'm currently in the process of requesting prize donations from different groups, and I still need to find a judging team. If you are interested in either donating to this competition, offering yourself as a judge, or just have a suggestion, feel free to add me on Steam, PM me, or even post here!
The theme of the event will be posted on the starting date.

What do I need to do to become a judge?
I'm going to require that when we're reviewing the gamemodes, you be available when we're doing them. A good time to do so will need to be discussed by the team, but that can be decided later. If you can meet these requirements, add me on Steam or post here, I'll keep you in mind.
How long will we have to work on our gamemodes?
I was estimating about a month to work on the gamemodes. This gives everyone, regardless of schedule, the time to work on their projects and succeed. The issue we saw with the previous ones is they ran too short, and we ended up with half finished projects.
How do I enter right now?
For now, just post below that you're interested, and I'll keep a small list. In the future, I'm going to have the website up soon, and you'll be able to register through that.
I want to join with friends as a team, what rules are there for that?
As of right now you can enter early as a team, just like solo. The only rule is that you are allowed three people max per team.
How do you plan on handling judging?
The developers are welcome to join the judging team when we test their gamemode, and explain what's going on. I'm going to limit each gamemode to an hour max, but the developers can tell us how long they think we should spend on their gamemode. I'm going to stream the big night when we test each different gamemode.
When will the competition be?
Sometime between November and December. I want to get a good feel for when everyone thinks it should start, so feel free to tell me your thoughts on when! Remember, the contest will last a month, so keep that in mind.
What if I have no prior Lua experience, or just started?
You can still enter! There's no point in excluding people who want to join.
I have a question that hasn't been answered!
Post it below, and I'll add it to the FAQ.

This is going to be hyp as hell.
Assuming I don't feel like entering whenever it happens, I'm still probably down to be a judge.
Sounds fun, I'm in
I'll be entering.
[sp]mikey you fuck[/sp]
I don't mind judging, probably wont be chosen but if you ever lack judges.
awh hell yeah I've been working on a small gamemode for a while, I'll look into competing it would be fun.
Just when I started university - fuk you.
Good luck to others tho!
I might be interested, will see tho :D
Kragle Studios
Kragle sounds like a cat toy tbh, but noice ;)
This looks pretty cool, but I'd want to know what the "theme" is first before entering.

As long as it's anything not RP related that would be great.
It would be nice to see some really unique stuff come from this.
I could defiantly help judge
After the contest will they release them? ^w^ cuz I really really want to see awesome things that people contribute to this great community
I'd like to participate in the competition, sounds like fun.
I'm really hoping the next TTT comes out of this.
I want to participate, but I don't know if I'll have enough free time. Can you put me down as a 'maybe'?
Additionally, I would love to contribute to the prize pool, how may I go about doing this?
I'll enter - been looking for motivation to start making gmod stuff again
Holy Shit, maybe I can actually make something worthwhile.
With everyone whose interested so far - when would be a good starting date for you?
I was thinking sometime after Thanksgiving, but before setting an official date I wanted to get a general feel for when.
Fuck, count me in. I promise it won't be one big shitpost this time.
I've added a Discord link to the OP as well for those who are interested in chatting it up with other people participating/judging.
This will be the Discord used when we judge as well, so people can sit in and listen to us.
If anyone wants to form a team, I can do mapping/modelling/basic animation. (I did superior servers' map)
Just pm me.
I'm in.
We should start in the middle of December, during winter break when a lot of students have a break.

Or Thanksgiving break
I like the idea of this -- brings new content to the gmod community. I don't have the time to focus on an entire gamemode, I wouldn't mind judging should you have an extra spot at that time.
Goodluck to everyone. Really like this idea.
Or Thanksgiving break
Because screw anyone who isn't american, right? :D
I'd be more than happy to weigh in my opinions as a judge, mark me down as a judge if it's available
hopefully some amazing things come from this
