Difference between scoreboard ping and 'ping' concommand

It's been bothering me for a while now and i was wondering if anyone knew the difference between the ping on scoreboards and the ping console command (because they show different values).

Scoreboard ping uses the [img]http://wiki.garrysmod.com/favicon.ico[/img] [url=http://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Player/Ping]Player:Ping[/url] function, which I believe caches the ping value and only updates every few seconds. The ping command sends a physical ping to the server and waits for a return, making it the most accurate.
