Hey guys, we moved the GMod Forums over, you hate it, blah blah, we get it.
Don't like the bright design? Try this.
Want to migrate your old account? Try this.
Is there anything we can do to make these forums better? Do you understand how to link to images, are the code tags fucked? Do you understand that all the old posts have been moved over?
Thanks, hadn't noticed the transfer link in GD.
[lua] tags are not working: https://forum.facepunch.com/f/gmoddev/obox/CanExitVehicle-hook-not-working/1/
Are all existing posting posts going to be moved here at some point (and are the mods actually going to moderate)
Quoting links seems to throw embedding out the window
(Not sure if this was fixed yet)
They already should be? Do you know of a thread that hasn't moved over yet?
The most recent Next Update thread didn't move and neither did the WAYWO. The most popular threads from the old dev forum seem to be missing.
Here you go https://forum.facepunch.com/f/gmoddev/oblo/DarkRP-Check-Pocket-Items/1/
Thanks - will investigate
Hi,
Could it be possible that links with the old URLs redirect to the correct thread here ?
A lot (if not all) links you get from doing google searchs are from the old forum and instead of getting you in the thread it was from, it goes to the category where this thread is. It makes the research of information much harder as you have much more difficulty finding the threads now.
Okay, they're still there - they just didn't get their last post date updates, so threads are ordered by when they were posted right now instead of when they were last updated. I've run another import so they should show up again soon.
Woah new forum smell.
And a neat dark-mode to go along with it!
I miss the box rating already
I've just switched it for the "Child Molester" rating.
General design:
"Click to view full post.." This is really annoying when viewing a thread like "What are you working on"
Quotes are also faded out when they're deemed to be too long. In this case the fading starts on line 3, but that doesn't seem to be consistent.
The Development subforum is really hurt by this IMO. The topic is inherently dense an verbose.
Why have borders been mostly abandoned? This can work when the theme sticks with contrasting colors, sure.
The dark theme uses a gradient which makes it annoying to look at and difficult to find separations at a glance: See here
The light theme just says screw it, which is really bad design IMO. Even when borders appear they are extremely faint: See here
For some reason the text color is set to 0.4 opacity in some places(look at "from" in the above picture). In general the text is too small/doesn't contrast enough.
Another example is the "edited" message: See here
Reading text is the most important feature of this thing and it seems more difficult now. I have to squint and stare at the number in this picture to figure out what it is, even then I have no idea what it means: https://i.imgur.com/9T4MBsX.png
The reply text box is pretty rough.
"New Reply" text suffers from the opacity issue noted above. A dotted yellow outline with 0.5 opacity on a white background is probably a sin in some design circles.
It's a bit annoying that we can't edit things like a quotation. Sometimes you want to split a large quote into smaller components if you're addressing them separately.
Also are we not able to embed things like quotes without using the toolbar? I can't seem to do it using
quoted text
or something like markdown's '>'
We can't edit text that has been converted to a link either. Say for example I converted the text "pciture" to a link. If I want to fix the typo and change the link text to "picture" I need to completely remove it, type "picture" then convert the new word to the link.
It seems like some of the toolbar operations(quote, code) only work on full lines and not just selected text. It seems a bit counter intuitive IMO.
Some toolbar buttons don't have tooltip/hover text. Such as the T with a \ through it and the strike-through button.
The padding between separate lines is too large IMO. Lines that are separated by an explicit new line have so much padding that there appears to be a full blank line between them while wrapped lines look normal.
On my setup:
Characters are at most 11px tall.
Padding between two separate lines is 25px
Padding between wrapped lines is 8px
It's not implemented yet, but Garry said it's planned
Are PM/Visitor Messages planned? I hate clogging threads with personal back-and-forth.
Also, can we have profile bio's? Or at least just ways to link visitors to our other platforms like Steam or Youtube?
P.S. you guys can link old accounts here: https://auth.facepunch.com/legacy/start
bring back box
Wow, Labpunch really turned out great. but we need the box back.
You guys sound like a couple of child-molesters.
Takes one to know one!
It is beyond annoying having to use a google or facebook account. Neither are required to play facepunch games, shouldn't there be steam auth?
If i'm not mistaken, this was asked on the labpunch WIP thread and I THINK garry said that it was something planned.
Garry said there were more planned in this newest iteration early into the forum discussion.
All in all most people have a Google account anyway so I don't think it's that big a deal.
Its much more appropriate to sign in with a Steam account for a forum typically associated with gaming than it is with a Google account. Its not a big deal but its annoying.
I mean I get your point on that.
Please make it so your theme isn't based on your subdomain though, it's pretty annoying for links
If we are being provided the option of Google Accs, We should at the very least get Twitter back and considering Facepunch makes Games, we should get Steam???
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
