• Has Anyone Tried Fuse in Conjunction With SFM?

So yeah, Steam released this software on Steam yesterday and it seems pretty cool. Definitely not for professionals, but a pretty streamlined character modeller for entry level guys. The thing that caught my eye is that is accepts almost any model format to be used, and when you create a character with this tool, rigging and stuff like that is also very streamlined — or so it says. My question is aimed at someone on this forum who has used this software, or know someone that has, and seen if the output can be easily translated to SFM. Like I said, most people will probably opt for Maya or 3DS Max for their modelling needs, but for guys who can't, this tool would be a great way to produce background characters or something like that. In closing, I know this probably would have been more for the guys in the modelling forum, but since my question portrays to this tools usefulness in SFM, I figured I'd post it here before I try any other forums. Thanks in advance.
If it can be exported to a format that Maya, Max, or Blender can open, it could be brought into SFM. According to the FAQ the models can be exported as OBJ (if you want to manually rig them) or uploaded to mixamo and downloaded as an FBX,which can be turned into a DMX via fbx2dmx.exe or Blender/Maya/Max, and compiled into the engine. I'll test out the demo version later and see how streamlined getting it into SFM is. Edit: What have I created
It looks like a chicken with boobs and spy for a head.
- snip -
From the picture alone, I can tell I'll be satisfied with or without easy SFM porting.
Just spent the last hour or so reading into it. I dunno, seems okay for the price. Though it could definitely be better. I suppose it comes down to how easily/fast it can be streamlined. Speaking of which, how is it, Pwonage? Fast? Slow? Anything broken upon bringing it into SFM?

So basically it's an independent version of an RPG character customizer. Can't say the source models look all that good honestly, some have that weird uncanny valley effect going on and others are too cartoony, not sure what art style they're trying to nail.

Looks promising, it was easy enough to create a person in the demo version, I'll be waiting for that SFM updatey thing. According to the steam discussions I saw a developer mention it was in the works on a thread.
Initially it looked interesting, but it seems like you can only edit the models that Mixamo provide. There doesn't seem to be an option to import your own files into it, to edit in Fuse. The only upside seems to be that it plans to include a DMX exporter, but that hasn't been implemented yet. If there were an option to import your own FBX files, rig the model, assign meshes for HWM, then export an MDL to use in SFM, then I'd buy it regardless of the sale price.

Besides, rigging will always have it's issues. You've gotta go back and make modifications, especially since Mixamo doesn't use any valve rigs.

This is why we need revzin to release that lovely Blender HWM tool of his, and show us how to use it. It's about time the community got creative with HWM :-)
It doesn't seem like it has standard character sliders or anything you'd expect in a character maker. So you can pick their parts, and modify a few parameters. It'd be nice to have something like the character creator found in games like Skyrim, Saints Row, or whatever, to export to SFM. It's too basic as it is, especially considering the price tag.
It's not meant to be used to fine tune characters. It's designed to easily create a large set of base models to work off of. It's not an OC creator.

Thought I'd breathe some life into this thread and say me and a couple other fellows (Pw0nageXD, PteJack, and Revzin) have been working on a really easy workflow from Fuse to SFM, including scripts for Blender and a full tutorial for Mixamo (they contacted us and wanted us to help them help everyone.) We'll eventually release this but it's not fully done, however I can say the process now is fairly easy and you can get a model in about 10-15 minutes. Expect some good things soon.
