I know that they're adding official support for their other games at some point, but in the meanwhile has anyone else tried to load up maps and stuff from other games? I played with it some this morning. It's fairly simple, you just need to create a mod using the SFM tools, and change the gameinfo to refer to whatever other game. Games with their content in GCF's (portal, half life episodes) need to have it extracted, though, it seems. A lot of the half life 2 stuff is there already, and this render was fairly easy to make (just had to import the map and pose a couple ragdolls) [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6438249/custom content test000000.png[/thumb] I'm getting some problems with Portal maps though. They act as if the camera is outside of the map (not rendering dynamic props and transparent materials) even though it's not. Screencap from in the program: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6438249/portal/portalsz.png[/thumb] Portal 2 maps and models won't load at all in the SFM, though I was able to open one of the SDK maps in hammer and the textures loaded fine. Haven't tried the left 4 deads yet, so someone could give it a shot.
Your doing good job p0rtalplayer like always :v:

Press F11, fly into the testchamber using noclip, then switch back to the editor.
has someone tried dota 2 yet? i wanna see what that looks like in the source filmmaker
has someone tried dota 2 yet? i wanna see what that looks like in the source filmmaker
Wait, Dota's a source engine game!? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I'd done the second thing before, it was the first one that fixed it. Thanks!
No problem. Also I've tried loading the portal 2 maps, and they loaded! Except that I'm missing the textures and models, even though I did put them into the directory. Nevermind, I forgot that the model and material files are in the pak01_dir.vpk file

I loaded up the smallest map I could think of (sp_a2_laser_intro) and it loaded, but the plants weren't there and it shortly thereafter crashed of a vertex buffer error.
How? :|
How? :|
CTRL+C CTRL+V
Why would Valve use another engine?
It just seems like it'd take a lot of engine modification.
Hmm, they're definitely gonna have to have high resolution textures when they add Dota 2 to SFM. Actually, wait, I think they already do, since there's already been a Dota 2 trailer. They just have to make some for the newer heroes. UNLESS they make them all fancy and high resolution, and make them fugly for the sake of the game. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] In the end, I still want SFM >:c
This is amazing.
It just seems like it'd take a lot of engine modification.
you're stupid and you don't know what an engine is
It just seems like it'd take a lot of engine modification.
No. Just different maps, models, camera views, style of gameplay, and GUIs. It's the Source Engine, just a slightly tweaked branch of the same engine used to make Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal, etc.
you're stupid and you don't know what an engine is
A man can't make a piss-poor post at 3 in the morning anymore? BLASPHEMY I SAY.
So I assume not just any ragdolls work here. I tried copying over models I had in Garry's Mod, props work fine but one ragdoll I try to select crashes SFM when I click on it :V And one of them has an invisible foot
most characters (especially anything with flexes I noticed) require to be recompiled with the latest studiomdl build in SFM it seems SFM gets confused by those
most characters (especially anything with flexes I noticed) require to be recompiled with the latest studiomdl build in SFM it seems SFM gets confused by those
hm. that sucks. don't have the source files for the ones i wanna use. ah well.
Have you tried out DoD:S, CS:S and CS:GO?
I don't think CS:GO will work that well.
I don't think CS:GO will work that well.
CS:GO doesn't work at all. The maps just crash and the models don't load.
Sorry, I tried Dota 2: 1.Open a Source Filmmaker SDK 2.Click "Create Mod" and type a game's console name (dota) 3.Copy the gameinfo.txt from game directory (common\dota 2 beta\dota) 4.And then replaced the original file in the SFM mod folder (common\SourceFilmmaker\game\dota) I did it, but I get error "Unable to load manifest file 'scripts/game_sounds_manifest.txt'" and content wasn't load. Where am I get the mistake?
I've (since making this thread) noticed some problems with having other games load as separate mods. I could tell you how to fix that but here's a better solution: - Copy the Dota content into a dota folder in your /game directory - Go into the usermod folder, and open the Gameinfo.txt - Add another entry, before "Game hl2" that says "Game dota" (or whatever you named your folder) This loads the game content without cluttering your usermod folder, and without having to go through the extra step of setting SFM to a mod. If you don't want the dota content any more just remove that line from the gameinfo.
Anyone able to get Dota 2 models working.. I tried getting Invoker to work and I can see his shoulders but everything else is invisible. Something about the materials.
I was able to easly import my mod's content over. I needed to recompile the maps, but the AO and Tonemap setting aren't working.
That video reminds me of the flight sequence of Navi during the beginning of Ocarina of Time. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] Ya know, if she were drunk off her ass.
