I tried to load in another source game (dear esther, if it makes a difference)
I copied the entire /dearesther folder into the /game folder (along with /hl2 and /tf2) and added a line in one of the files to load dear esther instead of tf2
I followed this post
I've (since making this thread) noticed some problems with having other games load as separate mods. I could tell you how to fix that but here's a better solution:
- Copy the Dota content into a dota folder in your /game directory
- Go into the usermod folder, and open the Gameinfo.txt
- Add another entry, before "Game hl2" that says "Game dota" (or whatever you named your folder)
This loads the game content without cluttering your usermod folder, and without having to go through the extra step of setting SFM to a mod. If you don't want the dota content any more just remove that line from the gameinfo.
Anyway, I started up SFM and now I don't get a viewport, and somewhere in the console (taking up the entire space where the viewport used to be) I get a bunch of lines, one of them reading something along the lines of "not playing a local game"
Reinstall and verify cache didn't seem to do anything
Is it something simple that I'm missing? Or have I truly fucked something up?
Try Ctrl+F1.
That resets the window layout.

That kind of worked
My viewport still isn't where it was originally
but at least it's somewhere, and it works
so thanks!

Turns out I could just drag the viewport from the new window back into the main window and it's all fine again
