Ambient Occlusion ( AO ) behind Transparency problem
5 replies, posted
Hi gang, has anyone encountered this issue before or know of a fix for it? The main issues seems to be that AO doesn't like being rendered behind a transparency, like this shot through the glass of the Sniper's Camper Van. Especially look at the right side of the wide shot, how the piece of paper over Sniper's hand seems to go transparent? Along with other weird effects which are more evident in the close shot. If anyone knows of a possible solution to this you'll have a friend for life :) It's really a huge issue for me because most of the shots in this scene are through the window and without AO it's just not going to look as good. Thanks!

Remove phong from the .vmt files of the props that are messing up.
The van in this case.

OMG!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! This community is amazing, not 20 minutes after I post, the solution has been found! In this case I just turned off phong in windshield.vmt. You sir are my hero! If you happen to live in Toronto I'll buy you a beer or 2.
If I remember correctly, you can add $ambientocclusion 0 to the VMT if you wish to keep the phong on your model.

Damn it worked! Thanks so much!
*EDIT* I owe you a beer too!
Hmm, so $ambientocclusion actually has an understandable purpose now.
